Taurus I patch sounds weird after 112 update

So I put in the update for my Taurus III, following the instructions by the letter, including the restore of the factory patches. However now I notice that certain notes on the Taurus I patch have these weird overtones, or it sounds like the oscillator is drifting. Hard to describe really but suffice it to say certain notes on the pedalboard sound gnarly (with just that patch) and others fine. Any ideas?

This is with the new v1.12 that I just posted, correct?

Well there are a couple possibilities. I changed two things that could relate to what you’re hearing.

One is that I tuned Oscillator B to be closer to oscillator A - this means that the drift or phasing between oscillators will be slower than before.
When you have two oscillators that are tuned very close to each other but not exactly the same, there is a slow cycle of drifting in and out of phase… this will result in a period of time where the overtones of the sound are very strongly reinforced (when the two oscillators are closest together in phase).
Then at the opposite end of the cycle, when the two oscillators are the farthest apart in phase, the combined overtones of the two oscillators will be weaker. It might be that you got used to the old tuning and the new tuning just sounds funny to your ears.

The second thing that might be happening relates to note calibration; did you also do a full note calibration on your T3 after updating the firmware?

If you like, I can send you the “older” Taurus 1 patch for you to compare. Send me an email at amos at moogmusic dot com if you’d like to A/B compare the two.

Thanks for the feedback!
