Synth bass patch!

Got a CP-251 today and the first thing I did was to make a synth bass patch with s&h. Nice! Although it was hard to get the adjustments right. When using noise it it didn’t hold but stepped through values during notes. Solved by using tri instead. Still want to find the right settings to trig only once every note. Used Env Out on the Freqbox as trig with attenuator at +.

Hi MBlom,

The way to get a unique Sample & Hold value for each played note is to make sure
that the signal going into the TRIG Input on the CP-251 is only crossing the amplitude
threshold once for each note played. It’s possible that the level hitting the Trig is high
enough that slight amplitude wiggles from the Freq Box’s Env Out are being treated as
an additional trigger. Go from the Env Out to an Attenuator and back it down until
you only get one trigger per note.

Another possibility is that the Freq Box is triggering more than once per note. Easing
up on the Drive knob might help there.

The important point is that Noise is the best input for a Sample & Hold if you’re going
for “Random”. A Triangle wave will become predictable if its Rate is near a multiple
of your performance tempo.

Thanks for the input. I’ll do it a little more thoroughly tommorow, will use your suggestions as guidelines.

Managed to get it right now. I had to use both attenuators to make a fine adjustment, actually I don´t know if it theoretically works that way. But I had trouble finding the right settings with the FreqBox Drive and an attenuator, either no trig or multiple trigs during one note. But when I connected the second attenuator it work just fine. I was very pleased when I got it to work.

I haven´t put any effort in fixing a nice bass sound in the clip, just used a sample that was already in my MachineDrum. But you´ll get the idea of how it works anyway.

That is cool

Cool vid, MBlom. The note falloff at the end of the phrase
makes great use of a FreqBox quirk.

Just for giggles, try putting the attenuated ENV OUT of the
FreqBox into the Lag Processor to see if you can dial out the
multiple triggering using the LAG RISE and/or FALL Times.

You may be able to get back one of the Attenuators that way.

The FreqBox surely behaves nicely weird with the bass guitar.

Good idea! I´ll definitely try that. Thanks.
