hello!
I have a problem with my little phatty stage update to OS2.0.
I use Motu Digital Performer 5.1 with an Edirol Firewire FA-101 and all the connections work well, even with other synths.
The LFO on the LP is set to receive midi clock and in fact it does sync, but there are some “clicks” or “pops” about every 4/5 beat clocks. I don’t understand why, but they seem to make the LFO going out of sync. The “clicks” go away when I stop the sequencer…
Here is how I set Digital Performer Transmit Sync:
transmit MTC to: none
transmit beat clocks via port(s): Edirol FA-101
echo received sync: unchecked
generate midi beat clocks: checked
24 clocks per metronome click: unchecked
24 clocks per quater note: checked
first clock is time 1: unchecked
Can anyone help me to fix this?
Sorry for my bad english…
did anybody experience something similar with other sequencer or with other synths?
it is a noise that can be heard as a “click” in the softer sound presets, but it clearest effect comes out when i move the modulation wheel and the LFO clips.
I have to play live this thursday and I am a bit worried about that…
please help me!!!
are you playing a loop in DP (eg 2 mesures ?)
i’ve some trouble with mesure loop in DP, if i set repeat mesure instead of loop, the midi sync works well… but if i stay in a looped region, the midi sync out is sending wrong midi sync. ; it’s a DP bug (5.13)
I am discussing this with our LP programmer today.
Do you have any other software (or hardware) which can send MIDI clock to the LP?
It might be useful to know if this same problem happens no matter what is the source of MIDI clock, or if the problem is somehow associated with DP in particular.
Thank you Amos.
I tried th LP with another synth sending midi clock and it works very well.
I suppose that the problem is with Digital Performer… Neither the arp seems to work. I set up the software to transmit midi, but actually it doesn’t do it because when I arm the arp on the LP, no sound comes out.
I can’t understand what I do wrong…
This means that the problem is: DP is not sending MIDI clock.
When the LP arpeggiator is set to sync = MIDI, then it will only play notes when there is a MIDI clock coming into the LP.
In a normal setup (where MIDI clock is working) this means that when the sequencer is stopped, the LP arpeggiator will not play notes, but when the sequencer is running, the LP arpeggiator should play notes in sync with the MIDI clock. If you can hit play in DP and the arpeggiator still will not play, then it means there is a configuration error in DP such that it is not really sending MIDI clock. If so, this also explains why the LFO will not sync to MIDI clock from DP (again, no MIDI clock is really being sent).
At this point it sounds like a Digital Performer setup issue; I’m sorry I can’t help more with that but I don’t know the program very well.
I did a quick test using DP ver. 6.01. For me it works fine.
The DP settings you listed look correct. Instead of the Edirol, I’m using a MOTU MIDI Express 128. Shouldn’t make a difference. With LP’s LFO synced to MDI, I played a note with LFO vibrato and then changed the tempo slider in DP. The LP LFO rate followed along in sync. I also tried the LP Arpeggiator synced to MIDI, and got the same result with the Arp speed following DP’s tempo slider as expected.
Not sure what’s going on with your setup. Could you explain in a little more detail what steps you take that result in the LFO blip sound on your LP?
okay, I did some tests and found something interesting.
This is the gear I used:
Computer: Ibook G4 or IMac Intel
Software: Motu Digital Performer 5.1
Midi interface: Edirol FA-101 or Edirol UM-2ex
Synth: Moog LP or Microkorg
Little Phatty LFO is set “Sync to Midi clock” and the arpeggiator armed and sync to midi clock too.
Digital Performer is correctly set in the “transmit sync” window.
I play the same song. There are both audio and midi tracks, some tracks were made with Rewire, if it helps, but in the tests Reason was not running.
First test is with the FA-101.
With the IMac midi seems to work well (it change patches and play notes) but the korg and the little phatty does not receive midi clock, because both the arpeggiators don’t work.
With the Ibook they receive midi clock but there are those clicks that slow down the tempo and that make everything unstable in both the synths.
Second test is with the UM-2 - advanced driver switch off.
Everthing works fine with the Ibook. Midi clock is sent and everything is stable. But I can’t change patches via Digital Performer.
The same with the IMac.
Third test is with the UM-2 - advanced driver switch on.
I can change patches but I can’t send midi clock with the Ibook.
I can’t change patches and can’t sent midi clock with the IMac.
Last test is with Little Phatty slaved to Microkorg midi clock.
Everything works very well and the tempo is stable.
And you don’t have the problem with the clicks with this combination?
If that’s the case, it would appear that DP is not the problem.
Since DP can change patches with the other setup, it indicates that in this setup DP’s patch change MIDI commands are being filtered–perhaps by the MIDI interface.
finally I bought a MOTU Ultralite interface for a better communication with my Digital Performer software.
I was sure I would get out of this problem but again I have the same result.
DP can send program change and midi notes to the Little Phatty, but no midi clock. When I arm the arpeggiator no sound comes out.
I am very disappointed… Am I doing something wrong?[/img]
this is how I set the Little Phatty, maybe I do something wrong…
Little Phatty Stage 2.0
Arpeggiator: enabled
Clock source: midi
LFO sync: midi clock
Midi setup: all notes off
Local control: on
Midi merge: off
Poly: off
I don’t think the other settings affect midi…
Any ideas?
I find it out!
I was running DP 5.1… so I tried with DP 6.01 and now everything works well. Maybe it is a DP bug… really don’t know.
Thanks to all… Little Phatty is wonderful
