I don’t recall saying that…ever. Good quote, but cheesy even for me! Sounds more like something EricK would say.

oh..yeah my mistake it was Christopher J. Boylan…so yeah i totally know what you mean Christopher lol

I thought it was MC because they were talking about playing live, which I don’t do at this time lol.

Eric

It was me, and I happen to like cheese.

Yeah, I like cheese…and I’m only 30 minutes from Wisconsin. Lotsa cheese in my life.

i work at a venue/recording studio and sadly have not seen any moog’s grace the stage or studio. i can guarantee you that once mine arrives, it will see lots of time up on the stage. i already have several bands marveling that i am getting a moog and wanting to jam. as far as i know, there are not any moog’s in cache valley here in utah. they are all about to experience their first moogasm. :smiling_imp:

I guess I’m one of those guys somewhere in the middle… I play live and mess in the studio… I love electronics and yet I also love genres like jazz and classical… I am trying to combine all my interests and I really think this is the future for many of us guys…

Truth be told, the last 10 years have been pretty difficult to do either due to work and PhD commitments… but now I am on the other side and plan to immerse myself in both live and studio…

On the one side I see too many guys with no real chops trying to recreate the 70s again (e.g. trying to be like Herbie, et al) and then the Tangerine Dream in the bedroom fans… particularly a lot of guys making ambient noise and being a bit pompous about it… I think its time to say that stuff is really easy to do and requires little imagination these days…

I’d personally like to see more live things that take a chance… more musicians with chops using pianos, samples, laptops, moogs, Kaoss pads, use of other time sigs other than 4/4, less obsession about gear collecting and the latest thing (…guilty!)… more concentration on composition, learning, listening, cross culturalisation…

even just trying to play a piece of music off the TV is an interesting experience… I tried playing a 70s theme tune (Rising Damp.. check youtube) and I learnt such a lot about old style piano playing and note choices…

Playing with other musicians is a really nice way to get your chops together… I think you can be at any level and still play live… even if its just triggering samples… its a good start… also playing with other people shouldn’t be about chasing success… its more a social activity…

Ok not everyone has chops, and I respect people who just want to play as a hobby (I felt a lot like that a lot to be truthful)… but I think music really should be heard live and the non-mainstream musicians (those not really looking for big volume sales) really need our support because its getting harder now that album sales are minimal…

I think the last few decades of DJ music have turned out a small amount of good things (really love Jazzanova, Koop and Jimpster for instance)… but 99% leaves me cold…

Just my 2c…

I guess I’ve been lucky. My clients that use me for studio work, know I improvise. This make it satisfying for me and those who hired me.

But to me there is nothing more satisfying than playing real loud and nasty, hitting a really obnoxious power chord at full volume with feedback and twisting tha neck of my guitar.

I admit im guilty of being a tangerine dream in the bedroom(that’s a great way to put it by the way lol) and making loud ambient noise live. But I also work traditional compostion (simple as it may be) in there. Matter a fact ill probably be doing some of that tomarrow night. And I am pompous about it, but very sarcastic. Because I don’t have tell me people how amazing and original my music is  if they don’t know, they just aren’t cool enough.

Myself,
Im a jazz prodigy in the bedroom and a kindergardener live. I charge people 120 dollars to watch me play the triangle along with a pure white noise drone and refer to me as genius.

Im like Jackson Pollock of the Jackson 5.

I play for the sake of making noise. I’d like to make noise live someday, though.
