SUB PHATTY VOLUME DROPS WHEN PLAYING LOWER NOTES

Hello! This my first post on the forum and first moog (SUB PHATTY)!
I’m freakin in love with this synth, but I’m encountering an issue where the volume drops drastically when playing baser notes.
It gets worse the more notes I hit until eventually it is silent.

However, I’m not positive it’s the Sub Phatty that’s losing the volume or my PA system being overloaded by the bass notes.
I did try another Mixer/Amp and the volume dropping persisted which leads me to believe it’s the Phatty or the Speaker thats the issue.
Did I leave my Phatty on too long?
Did my speaker blow?
Does it have to do with the wiring of it all?

SIDE NOTES:

  • I am running my Phatty through several pedals
  • All of my electronics are plugged into power strips in the same wall socket
  • I’m only using one speaker tower in my PA setup as opposed to 2 (incorrect setup?)

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi bertxmacklin,

It’s very likely that the answer is simple, but I’m not sure which answer it is just yet.

So I’ll shotgun and see if I hit anything:

First, is it possible that you’re playing Legato with a patch whose Envelopes are slowly closing over time? (Set the SUSTAIN knob for both VCF and VCA to max and see if it no longer fades.)

Second, do you have the RESONANCE knob up such that the sweep of the VCF is getting into ranges that reduce the bass? (Set the RESONANCE knob to min to see if that fixes it.)

Third, I suppose it’s possible that you’re demanding so much bass (whoohoo!) that you’re draining the capacitors on the power amp. Low bass frequencies require a ridiculous amount of power; so much so that they often require their own amps and subwoofers.

DEMON DAN.
YOU ARE THE MAN.

It was the freakin VCA Sustain knob.

Mystery solved!
