Sub Phatty Octave Knob Issue

Hi all – I received bounce-backs from the technical support emails, so trying on here.

The octave knob on osc 1 of my Sub Phatty doesn’t seem to be working. The issue seems to have popped up out of nowhere (no drops, power surges, etc). The editor is also not recognizing osc 1 octave knob adjustments made on the panel, though the sub can receive adjustment through the editor.

I have already re-flashed the latest official firmware release. Do you have any recommendations or is this more of a candidate for factory service?

I would say call Moog support by phone. It sounds to me like a broken piece which needs to be replaced

I’ve had three of those switches go on a Sub Phatty and now one on my Sub 37 (one for the LFO waveform and 3 for Octave selection)

It’s something that can be easily replaced by any competent electronics tech - you just need a proper desoldering station to extract the old switch and then you can solder in the new one. It’s a hassle but it doesn’t need to go back to the factory (or even anywhere authorized) if it’s past warranty, although the part itself is proprietary so it needs to be ordered from Moog.

Kind of a bummer that these fail so much - I repair them myself but if I didn’t have the skills & tools to do it I would probably be quite put out by having to pay a service bill every 6 months just because the switch they used is not up to the job. On the plus side I’ve not had to replace the same switch twice so maybe there was just a batch of switches that are problematic.

Thanks everyone – I heard back from Moog and they’re sending out a replacement switch for me. They offered to replace it themselves as well, but I figured this would be easier than shipping it out.

Special thanks to Adam at Moog. Great customer service.
