I picked up a Sub Phatty today and I love it!
I have it hooked up to my PC running Sonar, I have the editor VST installed, and the sub phatty is getting midi data from the VST when I change parameters. But I can’t get it to receive keyboard data from my A-800PRO. I have a midi track set up with the A-800PRO as the input device, the output is set to sub phatty editor, and the channel is set to sub phatty editor 1, but the midi light stays inactive when I hit keys.
Am I missing something simple here?
I added both 64bit versions of the VST to my plugins folder, but the VI version of the plugin didn’t show, so I configured the other version as a synth. Is the VI version required, could that be the issue?
I think what you’re trying is not possible. I think you need to send MIDI from the A-800PRO to the actual Sub Phatty synth, I don’t think that sending MIDI to the editor will result in the Sub Phatty playing sounds. The editor can be used to edit and manage settings and patches, but it doesn’t produce any sound on its own. I’d either connect MIDI out from the A-800PRO directly to the MIDI input on the Sub Phatty, or somehow route it that way via your DAW.
Thanks so much for the response. I’m getting sound again. It appears that for some reason, adding the device as a controller to Sonar sets “Local control” to “Off”.
I can turn it back on with the stand alone editor, and everything works as normal, but as soon as I start up Sonar it switches it off.
It’s a pain but at least the unit isn’t faulty, I had a heart attack!
Yeah apparently Sonar makes that decision for you. As soon as I boot Sonar with the SP as a controller it switches off Local Control. I guess if I can get the VST working I will be able to control that in the DAW, but I am getting a “hardware disconnected” message at the moment, perhaps it doesn’t play well if the SP is connected as a controller? I can switch it back using the standalone editor, but it’s all a bit clunky.
Edit: Playing around with it a bit it makes more sense. If you take the midi out from the SP and route it back to the SP while local control is disabled, you can play and use the SP like normal, but the DAW is able to capture all the midi controls.
