Hello, everyone. I am hopeful someone can shed some light on an issue I am having while using my Sub Phatty with Logic Pro X.
Until yesterday, everything was functioning as it did the day I bought it New a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday, however, I opened a project in Logic and noticed that the Sub Phatty is basically continuously playing a note (I didn’t verify which one). I tried creating a new project, reinstalling the firmware, restarting the computer, deleting/re downloading Logic, etc. I noticed the problem only occurs in Logic. If I quit Logic, restart the synth, and plug into an amp, the synth seems to work like normal (no note constantly sustaining).
Yesterday, I accidentally plugged the instrument cable into the Filter CV port. Could this have engaged some kind of setting?
Do you use the Sub Phatty editor? What connections do you use to your DAW? If you’re using MIDI and audio connections, you may have created a MIDI feedback loop. In that case playing a key will play the sound on the synth, but also send the MIDI note to the DAW, which may echo it back to your synth.
The solution for full DAW integration is to disable local control when hooking up your synth to a DAW. Then a key press won’t play the synth directly, but it will send MIDI to your DAW, where a track with the Sub Phatty editor on it can record everything you do on the synth (keys played, knobs turned, etc.) and send that information to the synth as well to generate the audio.
If you only connect the audio out from your synth to your DAW to record, there is no need to disable local control as there is no way to create a feedback loop that way.
Yes, I am using the Sub Phatty editor software within my DAW. I have been connecting my Sub Phatty to my DAW via USB and audio out simultaneously. Before things started acting peculiar, I was able to use this setup to:
Record MIDI data to an external MIDI track by pressing record and playing the sounds on my Sub Phatty
Then, I would route the output of the external MIDI track to a bus
After that, I would create a new audio track and set the input to the bus from the previous step
The sound begins as soon as Logic opens. It happens before any keys are pressed. It only happens when Logic opens. I can play as normal while the app is loading, and as soon as the project (new or old) opens, a continuous sound from the Sub Phatty begins.
A side note: something else that changed after things started behaving strangely is the master volume knob on my Sub Phatty (top right corner) now controls the track volume of the external midi track it is set up on within Logic.
