Here’s my hardware and software:
Using Win 7 64, Audiobox 22VSL soundcard.
Sub Phatty firmware: 2.0.1
Editor version 1.0.3
Sub Phatty is connected to computer with USB/MIDI. Sub Phatty is also connected to Audiobox via 5 pin MIDI cable (MIDI out from SP, MIDI in to Audiobox).
The standalone editor works fine.
I believe I have the Live 9 preferences set up correctly (screenshot).
I believe I have External instrument set up in Live (screenshot).
I can’t get the Sub Phatty VST editor to save the preferences. I believe the I/O is set up correctly otherwise. Here is a screenshot of the preference screen (note the “hardware disconnected”).
When I move a knob (let’s say filter cutoff) on the hardware, the corresponding knob in the VST does not move, and moving the filter cutoff knob in the VST does not have an effect on the output sound. The filter cutoff knob is properly identified by name in Live’s MIDI parameters box, and moving the knob moves the automation line in the arrangement view (see screenshot below).
I can record MIDI notes and knob movements in Live. However, the MIDI clip seems to be directly picking up the CC assigned to the knob and putting the CC into the clip’s envelope, rather than as automation in the VST. In other words, the VST is being skipped entirely.
I recorded a quick MIDI clip in arrangement view to demonstrate (screenshot).
I have tried setting up MIDI mapping the VST in the configuration panel, and Live picks up the mapping and assigns it to the knob properly. However, it does not record knob movements at that point, neither as automation, nor as an envelope change. Drawing in automation into the arrangement view does work, however. It’s like the knob movement gets “eaten” somehow.
If it matters, the MidiPortHandler.exe says it was last modified November 19, 2013.
Is this expected behavior? Or did I mess something up in the set up?
