This link appeared on a Sub 37 forum today and it states in-part
"Sub 37 Upgrade
To all Sub 37 owners who would like to upgrade their instruments to the new specifications: we hear you and we are working on it. We’ll need time to get parts in order, but yes - there will be an update available to existing Sub 37 owners. Please sign up below to be notified with details once we have established pricing and availability.
I basically can’t believe it and there’s no evidence of this anywhere else in the moogosphere.
Is this Bravo Sierra or real? They’re using the Moog logo and posting Moog email addresses in the replies.
I did sign up to be on the list. I really like my Sub37 and if anything else it’s the keybed that I would like to change. Now with that said I’ve only messed with the Subsequent 37 (CV) for a little bit and to me it does sound/feels like it does have a bit more ummppphh in the sound. Of course it could be all in my head but I do like the sound of it. Also it could have been some of the different patches that are on there. So with that if it was possible to change out the boards and not cost too much I might even go that route.
I really like the looks of my Sub37, in fact it was part of the reason why I bought it. It was the first synth I ever bought and was the gateway to my GAS of buying so many more Synthesizers. So when I first saw the announcement of the Subsequent 37 CV I wasn’t overly inspired to make a change. I just lean more towards what I consider the traditional colors which I know some of the younger folks didn’t like about the Sub37. They like the more blingy shininess of say the Sub Phatty which is perfectly fine but not exactly for me. So the blingyness of the Subsequent 37 CV wasn’t really a turn on for me as far as looks. Don’t get me all wrong, overall it is a nice looking Synth and I wouldn’t say no if someone gave one to me.
But now that they announced the Subsequent 37 with the original Sub37 colors it got my gears rolling. And although the CV out would be nice I have a bunch of other Synths that I can use for that. So we’ll see what comes about from Moog on upgrades if any will be available for the Sub37. Then I will kind of decide whether to upgrade the Sub37 or splurge on a Subsequent 37. Either way it won’t improve how crappy of a keyboard player I am.
What would the upgrade consist of? A user-swappable board, factory service, or a trade-in program for a whole new synth?
I wonder what the cost would be. If it’s hundreds of dollars, I’ll somehow survive with my stock Sub 37.
The cleaner mixer behavior is nice, but the extra distortion in the new multidrive sounds excellent!
If there was one thing I would have changed about the original Sub, it was that it lacked a genuinely hard-clipping internal distortion. I know it was actually designed as more of a medium overdrive for those mid tones, and not a full distortion effect, but this new one goes well into the sizzling distortion range.
Looking forward to finding out what the upgrade is! If Moog manage to pull this off and im pretty sure they will be then this is going to be awesome!
Always wanted to change the keybed in the Sub37 to something more like on my Voyager and if i had the option to update the other internals ill jump to it straight away!
If the upgrade of the filter and overdrive is made available, I’m really interested and most probably will go for it. Looking forward to hearing from Moog about this.
I waited 9 months after ordering my Sub37 until I got mine. I was not impressed at the keybed at all, I hardly even play the synth anymore because of it. I cannot wait to get this thing upgraded!
The text on the sign-up page that describe the upgrade have changed from:
“To all Sub 37 owners who would like to upgrade their instruments to the new specifications: we hear you and we are working on it.”
To:
“If you feel that you would prefer the features of the Subsequent 37 over the features of your original Sub 37, we will be offering an upgrade option for existing Sub 37 owners”
I take “the new specification” and “the features of the Subsequent 37” to mean the full specification/features and not partial specification/features. It would be nice if Moog let us know what the intent is…
Frankly, I find it pretty odd that Moog has not posted this link here on the official forum and hasn’t done any comment or official announcement either. Where was that link published and by whom?
I found it on Gearslutz, and the poster there had found it on Moog’s Facebook page (I don’t go anywhere near that book…). If I were Moog, polling for interest in the mod, I’d mail out to all registered users and put it on the news page. Surely a bit more volume would make it more attractive for all parties? However, Moog is so low profile these days that you have to find out about things by accident and can spot new synth models in the the wild that not even Moog has acknowledged
