Sub 37 editor/librarian and VST plugin

Hi all.

A number of sites advise that “the Sub 37 Tribute includes a free standalone/plugin editor that is compatible with all major plugin formats”.

Please can someone advise if this exists or if it is still being developed.

Many thanks.

I e-mailed Moog and this is the response:

“Hello,
They are still working on the editor.
Hopefully it will be done by the year’s end.
Thanks,”

I went to the Moog Store workshop a few weeks back in Asheville and Amos said that we were close on the ed/lib as it had just been “sent off”. Can’t wait!

In development…

Many thanks all and let’s hope it is available sooner rather than later.

Just got my SUB 37… an editor will be awesome!..

Hi! Any news on the Sub 37 editor / librarian?
Thanks and happy new year!

I’m also eagerly waiting for it…

Waiting…waiting…waiting.

This really shouldn’t have been advertised with the product. You still have authorized dealers with descriptions that imply it is included.

Hope we get an answer soon.

The Minitaur VST Editor has had some issues in Cubase, so I have created a device panel for it (not extensive enough to share yet). I plan to do the same for my Sub 37 eventually. It really doesn’t take a ton of time once you get the hang of creating them.

Jeff, did you know that the Sub Phatty editor “works” with the Sub 37? It has a limited functionality, but perhaps it’s a good starting point if you know what to do.

Yup…waiting for this too.

Was hoping for a NAMM timed release. Sigh.

I would love to have an iPad app for the Sub 37 editor. The Theremini app is absolutely fantastic so I know it would as great at least. I often use the Animoog app for the X/Y Pad as a controller so having the editor for the 37 in the iPad would be perfect.

PS: Amos I have Windows, Mac OSX and iOS Pad and Phone and would be happy to test any editors if needed. The 37 Firmware previewed at NAMM is the realization of your fantastic talk at the 2010 Moogfest. http://youtu.be/dGdLbMCYp5k

Wow, what an amazingly well-delivered talk (no script/teleprompter).
Amos is clearly a genuine genius!
(Thanks for the link, MacAquinas.)

Hey Moogies,

I’m pretty interested in getting a Sub 37, but I gotta have a dedicated software editor and preferably a VST where parameter changes and physical knob tweaks can be recorded and automated in software like Ableton. The more customized to the specifics of the instrument and robust, the better.

I understand that the Voyager has an excellent VST.

I want the Sub 37, but I gotta have the editor or I can’t really justify the investment.

I guess I’m just putting in my vote and letting everyone know that this feature is super key in my buying decision making process. Hope to see the editor soon because the Sub 37 looks and sounds great and is priced really well.

Thanks!

I too am waiting for the sub 37 editor before I buy. I only want to buy products that integrate perfectly and easily into my fast modern DAW workflow via a single USB. I thought this was supposed to be ready late 2014 - not late 2015?! This doesn’t give me much hope in moog vst support and development which is very important for how I want to use the product. Elektron are tempting me a lot with their new overbridge developments.

Personally I’d rather Moog take their time and get the software right rather than rush out a product that’s short on features and long on bugs.

Having the Sub 37 since late last year has given me tons of time to learn how to use the instrument and appreciate it’s incredible-ness. I avoid using computers in live situations so knowing how to deal with the synth on its own is critical to me.

I once got into a situation with my Yamaha Motif XF where I used the software interface for everything and was flummoxed in a live environment when I had to make a change on the fly. That was an eye opening situation which taught me the computer interface was just gravy and not the meal itself.

I can understand that some folks who work mainly in a studio environment want the ease and flexibility of the computer interface but for me I want to learn to use the machine first and how to add value with the computer software later.

I am sure it will be out soon and although it is disappointing that no editor has missed another deadline I would rather have it working than me being the tester. I wouldnt hold buying though as they may stop making the sub tribute by the time the editor comes out, then you miss the tribute edition which is beautiful.

Poor Moog are damned if they do and damned if they dont!

as other “Moogies” rightly say its better to learn the instrument first then use it as a plug in.

I agree. I don’t feel the need of a software right now. The Sub37 is very intuitive and quick to learn. I already have more complicated synths connected to software, I’m glad to playing this one free of computer connections. However, I understand if some people are waiting for the soft. I’m sure it will help a lot for patches management. The current UI is indeed a bit claustrophobic.
