I saw Keith Emerson performing at Manchester (UK) last night. Still using the big background of the modular Moog. The more modern, polyphonic digi synths didnt cut it at all. One broke down, and didnt sound raw enough. Thank god for a machine from the past still sounding like a synthesizer should! (I wish I had one)

So did Emo actually use the modular or was it just a prop?

ELP Live in Poland - the last live album ELP did - has some awful digital synth patches. Really tacky.

Considering the notorious instability of the modular, he should consider sampling digital patches with Arturia’s Moog Modular V software. He could do a fair job of emulating the sounds he created back in the early/mid 70’s, and wouldn’t need to be concerned with the big moog breaking down.

Although it just looks way too cool to leave at home.
