Still having issues with syncing Sub Phatty LFO with Volca

Hi all

Following on from my previous email regarding Sub Phatty syncing up with Volca Beats..

Well, I am still having problems syncing Sub Phatty LFO with the Volca Beats.

I thinks I was getting confused regarding this issue when I wrote my last email.

I still must be doing things wrong regarding syncin, and am probably hearing things that are just not happening…

Regarding syncing Volca Beats up with the LFO of the Sub Phatty

The makers of the Volca Beats have emailed me, I quote from them:

'The Volca doesn’t have an “EXTERNAL” MIDI Clock setting, so it has to be set to “AUTO” for it to work (its the default setting). If you mean that you have set it to “INTERNAL”, the Volca beats will ignore any external MIDI Clock messages.

Unless the Sub Phatty outputs MIDI Clock, it will have not effect on the Volca beats. I would suggest checking its documentation or contacting Moog directly about it.’

Volca Beats only has MIDI in,so will there be no way I can sync the LFO tempo of the Sub Phatty with the tempo of the Volca? I say this because there is no master tempo on the Sub Phatty to control the sync tempo of both devices.I have tried changing the LFO rate on the Sub Phatty, but it does not change the tempo of the Volca Beats.
In order to get a drum machine to sync with the LFO of the Sub Phatty, do you suggest I change drum machines?

Please could you help?

Hey Diode.

First, you should consider writing in the same topic you first asked, so that following forumers can find the whole information at a single place.

It appears that both the Volca and the Sub can only receive MIDI clock. (I’ve checked the Sub’s user’s guide).

So basically, what you need is a device that could send MIDI clock to both of them, or send it to the Sub that is able to replicate the MIDI signal received at its input right to the output (aka MIDI chaining).

A little drum machine can do the job, but you can also look for simpler MIDI utility devices like the Ploytec 34one… or an App. I saw one just yesterday. Look for Metronome with MIDI capabilities.

Hi Stiiiiiiive,

Thanks for your reply and advice.

I will try your suggestions.
