i have a few question unfortunately i still havent been able to incorporate my rme voyager to my beats i mostly do hiphop and rnb music but anyway how can i smooth out the tone a little enough so it can sit with my other tracks,i read that the se-1x was a little smoother and better for hip/rb production ??
can some of you guys post some of your fav patches from your voyager and maybe a few tweaking techniques you use on your patches??
The voyager is every bit as good and far more versatile than the se1 so you purchased the right synth!
What exactly is it about the sound that doesnt fit?
The voyager can do really smooth and creamy basses and leads so its definitely a fault of the programmer in this instance and not the synth!
I think the only way to help is to hear some examples of what you are talking about. It could be a mix thing, ie you may need a little eq and compression to help the voyager sit with your beats.
yes an audio clip is worth a thousand words in this case… or you could post the Voyager patch you are working with, and maybe you could get some suggestions based on that. Best would be a rough mix of one of your beats so we could hear where the problem is.
im def not the best programmer but i know the basics ,i was thinking maybe if had the keyboard version it might be alittle easier ,plus it being monophonic i havent been able to get a good melody, im not saying theres anything wrong with the synth my lack pf programming skillz,do you guys have any favorite soundbanks you use or some great tweak setting for making the creamy basses and leads??
It it competing with the kick? If you’re using an 808 kick then the bass has to be thinner. With a fatter bass, the kick has to be thinner. It might sound lame on its own but together it should sound big. You could also try moving the bass up an octave, etc. Make room for all of the elements of the mix and it will tighten up.
Maybe the Voyager just isn’t for you, man.
If you cant get bread and butter R&B leads and basses out of the voyager then my advice is to give up completely…
these sorts of sounds are just what the voyager excels at and should take very little effort to make happen.

I’d be inclined to modify that advice a bit.
Don’t give up. Practice.
A synthesiser is an instrument, like any other. Good results don’t come by pressing a few buttons and letting the machine do the work.
True, you can make fairly mechanical music relatively easily with synths, but even that requires some initial experimentation and application.
The patches supplied with the RME should provide a good starting point. Find one that comes near to what you want, and play about with it until the sound starts moving closer to what you’re after. With practice is starts to become second nature. When you notice your hand moving to a control knob to make the right changes before you’ve even thought about it, you’re getting there.
yeah thats what i meant… ![]()
…and me too.
But aren’t there, like, a thousand pre-programmed patches to download? Surely a couple of those at least something to start with.
i just wanted to thx you guys for the advice and encouragement im finally been able to really produce sounds i like and r able to use in my tracks i guess it was a bit of a learning curve for me as well as my ears had to adjust but ive finnally got it to wear im making my own sounds as well as finding the right tone to use for my bass!! keep turning them knobs is right!!
Well done, glad to hear it.
