still got no sound from my guitar...

okay, so i got a good level into the moog, the mixer light is flashing above the external audio volume know…i got all the osc off and the switch has been switched to external down by the headphone jack…am i missing something here…how do i get the sound to come out of the moog…it seems to be in there but it’s not coming out at all…how can something so simple be so hard to get going…anymore ideas i can try…

You’ve probaby already tried this, but I wonder if you may have a faulty on/external switch (the one by the headphone jack that you’ve confirmed is in the right position)? Does pressing a key allow the sound to come through?

The only other thing I can think of is the filter setting, but I’m sure you’ll have checked that.

I think I may have it - have you switched to `real panel control’?

how do i switch to real panel control…is that a menu item, if so where might i find it…i will try that at lunch…i will also make sure that switch isn’t broken…i’ll post after lunch and let you know what happens…thanks so much for the ideas…
what sould the filter setting be set to…i’m pretty much a newbie when it comes to real analog synthesis so you may need to baby-step me through this one…
thanks again buddy

What are the VCA envelope settings? Is the sustain up?

i’m not sure what the vca settings are…i’ll check that at lunch and report back…thanks man

Yes, real panel control is a menu setting. It’s a very useful one to have, because it overrides all the current patch settings. I tried a guitar through the Voyager earlier today and this seemed to be the key to getting a sound, at least with the software version I have. I got no sound otherwise, even with all the right hardware settings, just as you’ve described.

Press the edit button under the display window. The third option should be real panel control. Use the down cursor to highlight it, and press enter. No' is highlighted. To change to yes’ press the cursor button next to enter. Then press enter again when `yes’ is highlighted.

Suggest you grab a copy of the Voyager OS Menu Reference list:

https://www.moogmusic.com/members/?section=files&file_section=4&cat_id=31&file_id=52

It’s a helpful guide to navigating the Voyager’s OS. The list is for OS 3.2 and not for the current 3.3, but it’s still pretty accurate.

Are you sure you’re not plugged into the mix/in? It should be in the ext/in jack. just checking…

I think this thread is superseded by this one: http://moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4544

he got it working…

Press a key?

OK…I’ve got this working…sort of. Dial up a sound on the Moog, switch to external on the KB/External, then turn off the mixers for the 3 occilators, THEN turn on the mixer for the external.

This works…sometimes…depending on the preset. Sometimes you have to hit a key after the fact to activate the effect.Sometimes you have to touch one of the filter knobs to activate it. Sometimes the guitar grabs the Occilators, sometimes it does not, and then you have the guitar and the filters seperate from the occillators.

I do not understand the why’s or how’s of this. I will not go so far as to say it is not properly documented, but if it is, it is beyond my ability to find or understand. I am applying the “cat in a box method” of flailing on the switches from midnight to 3am.

I have managed to produce some phenomenal polyphonic textures with a Les Paul and the Voyager.

I think you are a totally newbe to synths.

If you learn how to use the filters parameters and learn how to modulate the filter with the LFO or the audio FM of the filter by oscillator #3, you will explore sound you never heard before. Just filtering the sound with a Moog filter is boring compared to the possibilities you could use.

To learn the basics, you should use the Voyager first as a monophonic synth it is. And then use it a FX box.

And yes, the knobs do not represent the actual setting you are in. This is because the physical knobs do not move if you recall a stored sound with a different setting. You may use the “Real Panel Param” Mode (this function is in the PANEL menu) to get the Voyager working in with the knobs settings you see on the panel. This is easier to start this way.
Start from there and keep some paper in reach to note down what will cause what change in sound. And what is needed to actually hear the guitar through the Voyager.
