Sticky's?

Would the forum benefit from stickys?

  • Yes, Good idea!

I like to say that it would be great to add sticky’s to the different forum sections (i.e. LP, controllers, guitar, Voyager, ect.). This will help topic redundancy and give clear points of access for Noobs:)

For example, a sticky for tips-n-tricks in each section would be a fun place for all the crazy and creative ways people have discovered and are using with their gear! Perhaps a FAQ for each section with topics related to hardware and software performance and of course the ever popular “Show us your setup/gear!”

Just a thought on a rainy Wednesday here!

Stickies are cool, but I enjoy answering the same questions over and over because it is a form of teaching (provided that my answers are accurate) and it lets people know that we are willing to help.

If new people joined and all the info they wanted was stickied and easy to find, why would they bother to contribute anything.

Eric

But they can certainly contribute to the sticky if they like. When I say sticky I’m not referring to locked topics but rather to topics that stay at the top and don’t get bumped down and away.

there is definitely some topics that come up again and again that would benefit from stickies, i’d like to see this feature added on. Look at that Ideas for the Stage III thread. OLD! but very relevant. I don’t mind the same questions over and and over, but stickies may be very useful to n00bs. i think we should add them on.

I … ( 1, 2, 3 ) … I fourth that :sunglasses:

If the sticky things are well chosen, it would help newbies to get the most wanted answers fast without asking the same question again, and in a new thread.

The most important sticky has to be the link to the great resource of KnobTweak. Very useful. And I love these Voyager menu reference charts. They helped a lot in the beginning. They should be included in a laminated version with every new Voyager (except the OS) sold!

When I did my forum clone experiment (if you look now it’s been gone a while; it obviously wasn’t needed or wanted ) the first thing I did was sticky a link to KnobTweak and post info relevant to the section e.g. guidelines for music posts, buying/selling etc..

Judging by the occasional spam (which usually gets picked up fairly quickly) and recent flame wars/rants, there isn’t a full-time moderator here. And why should there be? We pay Moog Music to make Moog Instruments, not police our cyber space.

You would need someone like an admin to “tack” the stickies, though.

But yes, I think they would be a good idea, esp. what Till said; KT is a great resource.

I vote NO:
There are several forums I’m on that have stickies. They end up taking up most of the first page of each forum. Since they have been there for years, they just get ignored and additions don’t get read.
Since there is no real active moderation here and even most php forum features don’t work or aren’t implemented, (View first new post in thread comes to mind) I don’t think it will work.
There could be a new forum with FAQ’s for newbs, but newbs are generally not content with reading that, either.

I like what Eric says, here. I also like the idea of having a forum for newbies that would have a sticky with info about KnobTweak. However, like Eric, I like answering what questions I can, even if they’re repeats from time to time. Keeps me sharp, and challenges me to get sharper!
