hey guys, i’ve had my voyager (signature series #066) for a few short weeks, though long enough to put some serious time into tweaking my patches. I’ve had a blast with it so far. Today i had it set up in the living room and i walked away for a few minutes. When i came back the LCD contrast was all the way up, and my patches were all gone - every memory slot was filled with
9 9 9 9 9 9
9 9 9 9 9 9
i managed to get it making some noise again, but as soon as i did, my 18-month old daughter squealed into the room and touched the Voyager and it rebooted.. at this point I put 2 and 2 together and figured static discharge caused the first problem while i was away.. anyone else have this happen to theirs? should i just be able to restore the factory patches and be good to go rebuilding my sounds? I’ve had experience with ESD on the component-level, but not like this with a grounded chassis.. i’m majorly bummed as i wanted to relax and tweak some more tonight.. i guess the next step is to crank up the humidifier a bit, huh..
My Signature has never lost memory from a static hit, but it locks up and won’t respond to anything until I cold boot it when it happens. I could initially run my finger under the diving board of the keys and have it quit. I’ve learned to keep my fingers out from under there. I’ve also had it lock up plugging cords from my 251 into it on the top jacks. (Gates seem the most suseptable.)
i think she touched the bottom of the chassis, it’s about all she could reach from her vantage point.. i’ve got the system unplugged, incense burning and have started chants to try to revive the memory, but i know it’s all gone.. i’m going to have to back up my memory often i guess, and wear an ESD tether while i play..
Man, i try to always discharge any type of static before I get to the Voyager, especially because this carpet it like 2 inches and if I think about walking across the living room I get a shock.
