a few days ago I received my Midi-Murf and was all excited to test it out. Immediately I was confronted with some MoogerFooger-atypicial-behaviour and I’d like to know, if this is normal or if there is something wrong with it.
The first Situation:
The Midi-Murf is fully connected on the “Audio-Side” (Guitar → Audio In, Audio Out → Amplifier) and the Amp is turned on. Now, when I plug the PowerSupply of the Midi-Murf into the Socket, there is some horrifying loud noise for some seconds (varies from perhaps 2 - 10 Seconds), the MF lights all still off. Then, with a loud “crack” the lights turn on and the Murf is ready for work.
If it is on, it works fine, there is only a click-sound when turning the Murf in the Bypass-Mode.
The second Situation:
The Murf again is connected on the Audio-Side. If I have now the PowerSupply connected to the socket and afterwards plug in the Powerplug into the Murf there is only this loud “crack” and it is ready for work.
Because all my other MoogerFoogers Start-Up smoothly and quiet and don’t make any clicks switching the StompSwitch I suggested, there was some kind of defect in the MF and send it back to the Mailorder Store where I orderd it. They seemed to have accepted the malfunction and returned a new Murf to me (different SerialNumber). With this fella the problems are exactly the same.
Thats why I’d like to know, if this is typicall and nothing to be worried about or if I have to returned it again.
Not that I am aware of, but I never plug in or power units without turning amplifier level down. That said, 2 to 10 seconds and flashing leds are not normal.
I always turn my pedals on first then turn on amps. But occassionally I forget or knock out one of my fooger powersupply jacks and there is an audiable pop or crack. I think its normal. Just make sure you have all pedals and synths and mixers etc turned on first, plug into your amp, turn the volume down, then turn on the amp. This is the best way to avoid damaging your speaker from those loud sharp noises.
The amplifier should ALWAYS be the LAST thing you turn on! Even the simple act of plugging and unplugging audio cords can cause the loud crack. (And possibly damage speakers.) If the power cord gets knocked loose on my Ring Mod, it is horrible noise time.
I normally do it as you guys said, first the pedals, than the Amp. But this noise last quite a while (up to 10 sec) and is not a single clack. So both processes tend to collide…
