specific minitaur/controller usb question

Hi,
I foolishly bought a controller that i thought was compatible with the minitaur in terms of usb connections.
I guess i jumped on an eBay item that i thought i researched but i guess i slipped up there.

The issue : the same usb type b -type b problem.. here is the question:
I have used a friends’ controller via usb with the minitaur successfully, but the controller had common usb ‘a’ connection.. i suppose this implies the controller is powerful enough to act as a host, and therefore mine would not work if i built an adapter hub to connect the data conductors between the two and power to the controller?

Thanks,
Ed

USB- only controllers & other USB peripherals require a USB host for connectivity.
More to it than just the connector - specific circuitry needs to exist in the device for it to act as a USB host.

With few exceptions, synthesizers, sound modules, etc. do not function as USB hosts, as they are also considered to be USB peripherals, just USB like scanners, printers, etc. Keyboards that function as USB hosts are a rarity.

Generally, to use a USB-only MIDI controller with a Minitaur or other synthesizer or sound module, you’ll need to plug them both into computer, iOS device, or something like an iConnect MIDI. A USB hub alone won’t work - it only multiplies the number of USB ports available on the host. If the hub isn’t connected to a computer or other USB host, it will do nothing for you.

That’s a limitation of the USB design standard…
