If there is one, should the moderator enable a feature which only allows you to start a new thread after you’ve made a set number of posts?
Yes, new users can only start a thread after making 10 posts.
Yes, new users can only start a thread after making 5 posts.
No, any new member should be able to start a thread.

I’m not sure if this is possible or not, but I suggest that the moderator set up some kind of blocker which only allows new members to create a thread after having left a set number of replies on other threads. This could effectively remove spam from the forum, seeing that spammers tend to only have made 1 post.
I think this is a good way to delay the inevitable…and that’s about it, really. Who’s to say the would be spammer won’t put a troll message on five different posts, like musiclovr89, or a spam message within a thread? It would help to a small extent, yes, and for that reason I chose option number two.
I voted no.
Some new users join because they have a specific question and need to start a thread to address that. These are the people who really “need” the forum we have here. There are alot of intelligent people who frequent Moog Music Forums.
I vote to let the new members use the older members… even if they need the help in their very first post!
Ignore the spam.
I was under the impression that new members aren’t mod approved, other than perhaps being required to click on an e-mail authentication. It has been a long time since I joined.
This is correct. The mod clicks on an e-mail authentication, and approves a group of members at a time. If there’s one membership request in the in box, the mod waits for, say, twenty-nine more, then approves them all at once…which is why it took me nearly four months to become a member. That is the most efficient way to approve membership. It also lets spammers in, who would then have to post within a thread to spam, or post five times before starting a spam thread IF a five post rule was implemented.
analoghaze has a point which is good and valid. However, does this forum not also see questions and threads related to a previous thread? I think that those posts, as well as the numerous trolls asking about the typical Minimoog sound or where to listen for Moog sounds, could be cut back if a five-post rule was implemented. Or, at the very least, delayed.
Adding another moderator might not be doable, as that second moderator would require pay and other resources Moog may not be willing to spend on a FREE forum.
I volunteer as a moderator. I’ve got the resources. (Computer on the internet.) I’ve got the time. (I’m on several times a day) I’m cheap. (At least that is what my last date said.) I hate spammers and would love to have the abilty to boot them.
The amount of spam isn’t that high that it needs drastic measures in my opinion. I agree with Subtronik, just an option to report posts would probably do the trick.
Another vote for more moderators. There are plenty of members, like Voltor, who spend lots of time here and can be counted on to notice spammers and terminate their posts with extreme prejudice.
I think Moog should offer someone like Voltor product at dealer cost.
They’ll make a sale and gain both a product specialist and moderator.
Possibly a couple moderators like that so there’s 24/7 coverage.
No money lost by Moog and a good incentive to keep the board spam free via one or more of our most motivated members.
Sign me up for that deal…wait…I might need another job to pay for all that stuff. Not only that, but the amount of spam has considerably dropped since I first started visiting the forum. Is this trip really necessary?
