SP Is Really Freakin Out

Had my SP for just under 2 weeks, have been really loving it except for it has just died. Left it sitting plugged into the Octatrack, and SL61mkii for 20 mins, came back and it was warm to the touch and not behaving itself. I do not remember that it really runs that hot. One the display, none of the presets change - only the preset number, and within options the screen disappears after two turns to the right.

I reckon this is probably software fault, but its the heat thing that is my concern. Any one want to feel their instrument for me? ha ha.

I work for a major UK music tech shop so not worried about getting it sorted, just a pain in the arse I suppose.

I had been getting weird Midi results from Logic recently with the SP, again prob buggy OS - though its on v3.03. Had to create new insts in the environment, but still playing havoc with my usually speedy audio tracking.

Anyone with similar issues or ideas? Tried reboot/power off/on still the same. Think its time for a new one.

They always run hot - about body temperature when fully warmed up.

Sounds like the firmware got corrupted somehow - were either the octatrack (lucky you BTW) or SL61mkii running/sending MIDI at the time? How did you have the devices connected to one another? you can email me at amos at moogmusic dot com if you like.

Best bet is to re-load the firmware on that unit, should be a doddle… just email me and I’ll send you the file you need, it takes about a minute to do.

All the best,

Amos

PS) Logic has some conflicts with a few of the CC numbers used by Moog synths - the same CCs control things like Logic track panning, etc. Unfortunately no way to reassign CC numbers in the Phatty nor in Logic. Best workaround I know of is to have a dummy track in Logic which you monitor instead of monitoring the Phatty track. As long as Logic isn’t monitoring the Phatty track, you can record all your MIDI knob tweaks and they won’t also control Logic track properties/environment stuffs.

edit: preset number changing without preset changing sounds like Local Control is off - if you can get to the MIDI setup menu (try scrolling the other direction on the master menu so you don’t hit the blank page), you can turn on Local Control. But really, just reload the firmware…
