SP audio/midi setup and questions

Greetings Moogers, I am somewhat new to gear, but have been running midi controllers for a long time and am fairly familiar with my setup. I just got my SP yesterday and was stoked to fire it up and start pounding keys. Sounds awesome! Next up, how to integrate it with my digital setup.

Axiom 49 midi out to SP midi in. SP USB out to PC. I also have to run the 49 USB to PC to get power (pretty sure it’s still routing midi somewhere). I’m using Ableton 8 as my DAW controlled by an APC40. I also use Reason4 controlled by a BCF2000. I just picked up an iRig for my iPad and am looking to use it as a filter/controller somewhere in the mix. Audio is routed through a Creative Audigy 2 front bus.

My hope is to have SP sync to the DAW midi clock for lfo, etc. I want to be able to record midi and audio from the SP/A49, etc. Right now I can play the SP w/o Ableton active and it just plays through the PC. When I route everything through Ableton I’m able to record midi and audio as needed, however Ableton isn’t taking full control of the audio source and it starts to loop and play twice, can’t really tell. If I mute the SP in Ableton I can still hear SP playing.

Any thoughts on the setup or advice as to how I can stop this loop/double play thing would be awesome. I’ve read up on this a bit and some say disable the midi in on the Axiom 49, but I have no idea how to do this. I’ve searched/read a lot.

Cheers,
Rob

I’ve tried a few more things but haven’t gotten any further. I changed SP Midi Out from USB to I/O. Didn’t really solve anything. My next step is to remove the USB Power/Midi on the controller and move to a different power source. I think the midi loop might be occurring because there isn’t a direct midi path from the controller, through the SP, and into the PC because the controller is USB power/midi. I have to get a universal power supply, but I’m hoping this will solve my issue.

Also, if anyone has clear instructions on how I should be setting up my inputs/outputs/midi in Ableton that would help a lot. I’ve been on the Ableton forum trying to find an answer, but I’m at a loss. I’m clear on how to set up for Midi or Audio only, but not doing both. The way I have it setup now, I can play audio from the SP over my track, but I wouldn’t be able to record while the track is playing because it’s feeding through the same input channel as the SP.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Can’t wait to start recording, the sounds on the SP are amazing.
