Just recorded a couple at electrical audio in Chicago, finished up synth overdubs back home in Eau Claire. I wish I could share them already!!! The Eau Claire studio had a sub hooked up to the monitor system, so when I blasted bass it shook my GUTS OUT.
As soon as it’s ready I’ll be posting the HELL out of it. Albini had nothing to do with it, other than exchanging $400 of our dollars for the use of half his studio for a day
Hard to tell, but we use the MT to double up on pretty much most of the bass lines (the heavy parts anyway). I’d say the Minitaur is now our most used synth. It’s pretty much in every song start to finish, playing along with the bass.
I would have to say the second bassline in the first song is one of my favorites I’ve ever written and its entirely because of the amazing sound of the minitaur
Both of these have minitaur on simultaneous bass and drum filtering/gate duty, no over-dubbing, I just plugged the drums into the filter when recording the bassline.
I just love the atmosphere and texture of that track. The 16th note beat is stressing, goes very well with the sounds here!
Bravo
EDIT: Kirk, I just love your tracks’ character, really. Have you ever though about making them a little more wide, stereowise? I think that would be even more… enveloping.
As far as stereo goes, these tracks are made mono and low-fidelity on purpose, being run through as much as 3 cassette recorders! That and the cassette recorders output mono. I know I could lower the volume slightly, and copy the digital track to another track and join them in stereo, I’m just maintaining the character of the cassette recorders.
I’m a big fan of stereo tracking and bouncing stuff left and right, etc. Just not for this particular music.
Not a song, but an excerpt of an arrangement featuring Minitaur on bassline and lots and lots o fphatty, MF-102, Nord Lead and Virus C self made patches. http://soundcloud.com/nectesting78/minitaur
