I would love to have this option.
I don’t know is it possible, but now I think of buying minitaur just for this reason, and the bass sounds.
I can get decent bass sounds with slim, but I’m trying to get that detuned bass sound but without osc sync it just don’t sound that good.
And If I want to have undetuned sound it is even harder to avoid in the phase problem.
One thing I’m doing is LFO note sync. So I can get some control over oscillators pitch, but that is not the same.
So is there any space in code to include this in new version?
Amos?
It does! Unless, I am not understanding you correctly.
I think you mean VCO sync as in phase re-trigger, so that the VCO starts from the same phase at each note trigger.
A soft sync option would be ideal when writing basslines with constant transient content. I get round this by recording a bunch of notes and then choosing the recorded best notes for each note of the pattern…this option is available on the Minitaur but the Slim Phatty is so much more than the Minitaur in terms of sound palette.
Its a pain when you want to change the bass riff at some point later on in a track, but I use a dummy track from a soft synth until I make my mind up for the end result, then record the bassline with my Slim Phatty.
Sucks this option is not available on the SP, but that’s life.
Peace out.
Thats what I’m looking for. There is a workaround in a recording situation, but I want that in a live context.
Guess I have to buy minitaur. It is way better for bass than slim.
Btw… I love my slim phatty!
When you want the VCOs to lock when not detuned, just use hard sync that’s what it was originally meant for back in the early days of modulars ![]()
Hard Sync is not Soft Sync though and hard sync has a very specific timbre. The Doepfer A-111 VCO has both Hard and Soft sync options and besides all that, you can’t get the phase lock trigger sound of some VCOs even with the Sync button enabled and only mixing in VCO2 on the Phatty.
For live, Minitaur is the only option as far as I am aware.
Peace out.
Would anyone know if the ability to re-trigger the VCO phase is hardwired or if it’s also possible to add this with a future OS update?
I’m pretty sure this is the main reason Minitaur exists. If the Phatties were capable of soft-sync, I really don’t see much reasoning behind the Minitaur. They may not have even needed to bring back the Taurus at all. I think it’s something to do with VCO architecture that determines whether a synth can soft-sync oscillators. As far as I know, the Taurus series are the only Moog synths to ever have this function (though I think with the Taurus series, it is not so much an option as it is the way the oscillators were designed- there’s no way to un-sync the osc phase between osc 1 and 2
