Could someone please help me with this setup?
I need to connect both the Minitaur and the Little Phatty to my RME Fireface 800 to use them both in my DAW.
I’ve got 1 MIDI keyboard with MIDI-OUT
My RME has got 1 MIDI-IN and 1 MIDI-OUT.
The Minitaur is connected with USB to my MacBook.
Will this work?
MIDI Keyboard → SP MIDI THRU
SP MIDI-OUT → RME MIDI-IN
RME MIDI OUT → SP MIDI IN
?
Can I use my keyboard this way to control the SP and the Minitaur or do I need a midi interface?
Think of MIDI THRU as an OUTPUT, not an INPUT ~
The THRU jack is designed to pass “thru” the same MIDI information that is received at IN jack:
Device A “MIDI OUT”=> Device B “MIDI IN”
Device B “MIDI THRU” => Device C “MIDI IN”
Unless there is internal filtering / mixing going on with Device B, the “MIDI THRU” is acting like a MIDI Y-cable ~
Both Device B and Device C are receiving the same “MIDI OUT” data stream from Device A
Since you plan to use a computer in the mix anyway -
If you add a USB hub to your mix, you could hook up both of your Moog synths via USB, then use your DAW or a MIDI utility to handle all the MIDI routing.

Can the SP transmit midi in-out over USB?
Sure -
Pretty much anything that can be done via the MIDI DIN jacks, can be done via USB, provided you have the software to handle the MIDI routing.
