I have a new Slim Phatty. It all seems to be working great (apart from a low output of about -25db) but I have noticed that if I hold a note the volume decreases until it is silent. The filter is open and no filter eg. The volume (amp) envelope is set to 0 attack and full decay/sustain and 0 release.
The notes should just hold until I release the key but a held note gets quieter and quieter until it is inaudible. This decrease in volume starts as soon as a note is triggered and until the next note is triggered.
Is this right? Can anyone else check this out? It is causing me a problem trying to record a long bass sound and I have to keep the notes to 1 bar length which isn’t a great solution as I get an ‘attack’ phase on each new note.
The low output seems wrong, but I don’t own a sub-P to test. The fading sound sound like the envelope is still in the decay stage. Try setting that to 0 along with the attack and release with only the sustain at max.
set decay to minimum and sustain to full… if decay is too high (above half or so) you gradually lose volume on sustained notes. It’s a quirk of Bob’s analog envelope circuit.
Thanks very much. This is it and now I know it is not a problem.
Would Amos be able to comment on the output? Its not super low but I do have to boost my soundcard inbut about 20db which raises the noisefloor quite a lot. I read another user was told to send his Slim Phatty back for a replacement because of this.
is there a problem with my Slim phatty of is this normal? What is the normal output of these things?
