Hi everyone I would like to address some problems with AUTOMATIONS in Pro Tools. I have the Slim Phatty for a while now, I read a lot about these issues, update the firmware to latest version (now 3.2_689), spent a lot of time trying to figure it out but never found a solution.
My Slim Phatty is connected via USB straight to IMac, I’m using Pro Tools 11 (but had the same problems in Protools 9 anyway).
Everything is fine except when I try to Record automations and Play automations written in Pro Tools.
Recording automations:
I’ve tried every possible settings on the Slim Phatty, Local control on/off, 7bit-14bit, Analogue modes “track” “snap” etc… In Pro Tools (on the MIDI track receiving data from Slim Phatty) I’ve tried “write”, “autolatch” modes etc.. but is NOT POSSIBLE to record a smooth automation!
The MIDI track in ProTools is set up like this:
Input: Slim Phatty ch 1
OutPut: Slim Phatty ch 1
The MIDI CC# are all correct when I press record the data are jumping around and the automation is all crazy. It’s like the knobs on the Slim Phatty are not responding smoothly to my touch no matter which settings I’m on.
If I press “PLAY” and NOT “RECORD” in ProTools everything works smooth!
Reading automations:
To work around the problem with the Recording I said ok lets try to WRITE the automations in Pro Tools and have the Slim Phatty read them.
The MIDI track in ProTools is set up like this:
Input: Slim Phatty ch 1
OutPut: Slim Phatty ch 1
Did that… And the reading is HORRIBLE. On a simple filter sweep you can hear all the steps. The resolution is really bad!
Does someone have the same problems?
