Slim Midi question

Soooo… I’ve already lost my owner manual CD, and had a question.

How does one re-assign the function of the knobs found on the keyboard being used to control the Slim? I have only 4 knobs to use, one controls the ocsilator octaves. I want to swap that for filter control. I know this is probably pretty simple, but a little help would be great!

cheers
Bruce

If I understand your question correctly..?!, you need to change the midi cc output on your keyboard knob. It needs to match the desired CC destination on your Slim.

Thanks for the reply.

So what you are saying is that it’s a setting I need to change in the keyboard controller ? Not in Slim…?

Correct.

I keep all my gear in our studio. So when brainstorming ideas, I don’t get to just go and try it out, I have to wait for the next rehearsal… I want to eventually rack mount my slim for tours/gigs, but I don’t want to loose TOO much control as it won’t be right in front of me to tweak the knobs.

So would this work…?

I have a 4 knob controller. - Volume / Pitch / Mod / Osc Octave (these are the automatic functions assigned to them when the Slim is connected). But I don’t want the Osc Octave to take up a precious knob.
In the board itself, I can’t rearrange or reassign the knobs and their functions, there’s just no option in the MIDI setup menu.

Here’s the idea..
If I change the POT MAPPING in the Slim to swap the Filter over to the Oscillator knob (Filter control where Oscillator control was), would I be able to save this Pot Mapping setting with-in the preset? But only for the desired presets and not all of them?
Thus giving me on-board control over Volume / Pitch / Mod / Filter.

Like I said, I can’t just go and check it out, and my thoughts and questions are bugging me. Thanks for the help!

You need to get something like the BCF-2000 midi controller which has editable knobs and faders. Im pretty sure you cant change the CCnumbers on the Slim.

I know there are better midi controllers out there, but I not looking for more gear to tour with. I use a Memotron to trigger the Slim, and don’t have room for something specifically for the Moog.

Will Pot Mapping work? Has anyone used this function? I can’t really see too many practical uses for it, but maybe for my needs it might help. I was also thinking, if pot mapping wasn’t the answer, I could build a small knob box and plug it into the Filter CV. That wouldn’t be a big deal, although my goal is to have less things to plug in, connect and carry around. If you saw my rig, you’d understand. Sometimes you only get 10 minutes to set up between bands and I get pretty stressed.

From the manual:

The Pot Mapping menu allows you to make arbitrary MIDI Continuous
Controller (CC) assignments to each of the four Analog Edit knobs
on the front panel (MOD, OSC, FILT, and EGR). Additionally, the four
knobs can be individually programmed to provide internal, external,
or combined MIDI control. Among its many possibilities, Pot Mapping
allows you to ‘reprogram’ the four panel knobs to control any of the
SP functions. For example, you could program Pot Mapping to give you
control of Filter Cutoff, Resonance, Overload and EG Amount, all at the
same time.

I haven’t used one, but MIDI solutions makes an event processor that should be able to convert one CC to another.

Awesome!

I think this might help. Midi is new to me, and a touch confusing at times. So this unit would take the midi messages send from the keyboard, re-configure the “events” as desired, in order to line-up with selected functions on the Slim?

..or Bomes midi translator. (software)

Great program indeed.

I’ve had a tough time with the slim and the event processor plus (EPP). The slim only seems to respond the last cc that I’ve mapped through the EPP!! The epp is working but the slim isn’t getting all the cc’s just the last one!! Anybody else tried sendind multiple cc asignments withh the EPP?

many thanks
