Size doesn't matter

Proof that size doesn’t matter:

Minitaur patches are now available on Knobtweak! Look in:

KT > Files > Minitaur

Silly question…do these patches work with the Taurus III? I know the sound engines are slightly different, but is it possible that certain patches can be used for both synths? If so, are there any (of the ones that are compatible) that the Taurus doesn’t already have?

If you looked at the patches on KT, you’ve realized that they are patch sheets, as in ‘set-the-dials-like-this-and-get-this-sound’, and not .SYX files. As such, there’s little likelihood of translating these patches to the T3.

But to answer your basic question about ‘T3 vs Minitaur’ sounds, without putting too much thought into it, I’d say that some compatibility certainly exists but you’ll probably have better success getting T3 sounds on the Minitaur than vice-versa.

Why is that?

The Minitaur’s sound engine is very similar to the T3 in terms of functionality, so it should be able to get most if not all of the sounds in the T3. Going the other way, however, you need to take into account that the Minitaur produces both Saw and Square waves, and has ADSR envelopes for both the VCF and VCA. This gives the Minitaur a big advantage in the sound creation category, IMO, and bests the T3.

For example, one of my first patches (‘Birdland Bass’) uses a square wave on VCO2. That square wave really adds a lot to the sound, and substituting a sawtooth wave simply doesn’t cut it (I know - I tried).
