Sequencing a Freqbox and Taurus Pedals...

Enjoy (when it is done processing)

Wow Eric. Big move… (jealous)

Did you consider the Doepfer Maq so and so (whatever it is) or did that turn you off since it’s digital-ish?

So here are a few questions since I was considering this unit as well:

What did you do about power, get the wall wart option with several leads or go big with the power modules (pricey) Any way to transpose while playing? (ie. is there a pot that can be additive to the dialed in voltages?)

Thanks and congrats.

Im not turned off by digital at all. Price was the main thing I was considering. I also use numerology, but its simply not as fun (Because the only patch cord is a midi cable).

I really want a sequencer with 896 spaces available for memory!

I bought the power supply with 8 cables (Qps2 $125 as of right now) so im dying to use up every lead.

You can transpose just by hitting a key. I BELIEVE that the CV input sums with the keyboard, so whatever key you press it transposes.

There is a pot that will let you add to the voltage on the sequencer…something I haven’t figured out a use for yet though. Check out the q119 datasheet

This is just the tip of the iceberg for me. I see that I need VCAs and more oscs and more sequencers.

The challenge right now is how to make sequences interesting instead of looping all day long. I guess the answer is triggering on and off more than one sequencers.

Heading towards full blown modular…

Eric

thanks for posting Eric. nice stuff! i have been eyeballing dotcom for some time now, threatening to buy some stuff, your video isn’t helping my wallet at all.

Welcome to that bottomless money pit known as modular synthesizers

My first synth was a PAiA 4700 modular, that was fun

MC,
I notice that you don’t have any modulars in your studio pics.

And tonight I was trying to sequence the MicroMoog and its not holding its tune very well.

My first synth was a PAiA 4700 modular, that was fun

Mine was a Paia Gnome when I was about 12.
Then next year a Paia Oz and a year after that, the Paia 4700.
Rest in peace, John Simonton.

That is correct, I do not currently own a modular. The PAiA was the only one I had and I enjoyed it, a good introduction to analog (and my intro to EE). Then I discovered my first moog (source) and I forgot all about the PAiA. The case was dismantled and the modules sat neglected for twenty years. The last time I had fired them up, half of them were malfunctioning. Then I got hit with the flood of '06 (really bad one) and the modules were destroyed by floodwaters.

Right now my money priorities are saving for a house so not really in any hurry to get a modular. Lot of good choices for modulars though. I was leaning towards Technosaurus, but they’re not made anymore. Ken Macbeth makes some really good sounding stuff. I’d be happy with an ARP 2600 - a tech friend found a greyface in excellent condition. He bought it for $600 (!!!) from a military retiree who kept his Omni because the 2600 didn’t play chords (!!!). I played the thing and it sounds marvelous, you can get lost for days playing a 2600.
