The scale editor only allows 12-note octave-repeating scales. This is a serious limitation for microtonalists. Even for the common quarter-tone scale, one needs 24 notes per octave. Only a minority of the thousands of scales in the Scala archive are 12-note scales. That archive has tuning files in the .scl file forma, the one the Phatties use. But only the 12-tone tunings will load.
Has there been any information about a future update of the scale editor or the OS that would do away with this limitation?
Sadly not that I’m aware of. 12-note tuning scales isn’t the worst part - even in a 12-notes per octave scenario, you are limited to ±1 semitone’s worth of tuning range, which is insufficent for even the majority of 12-note microtonal scales I’d say that is even more severe limitation IMHO.
And IIRC, Amos said that hardware limitations prevent increasing the microtuning range…
O’well, it’s still better than nothing - at least I can get an oriental melody going
