Saving moded preset sounds

Hi There,

I’m new to the Sub 37 and would appreciate it if someone could tell me if it’s possible to be in a preset, for example Bank 3, Preset 5, twiddle some knobs to build on that sound to create a new sound, and then save that new sound in one of the empty Init Preset banks in the upper register? (ie: 16/16) - my intention is to NOT overwrite the original preset.

It seems logical that you should be able to do this, however my searching online on how to do this has brought zero results, even the manual is vague and doesn’t help much.
I’m new to the Sub 37 and LOVE it, but would love it even more if I could save modified preset sounds WITHOUT overwriting the original preset.

I thank you for your advice in advance!
Warm Regards,
C

Straight from the horse’s mouth (in this case, the manual):

TO SAVE A PRESET:

  1. Press the SAVE button.
  2. You will be given an opportunity to name your preset. Use the buttons to select a character,
and use the FINE TUNE knob to scroll through the available characters. Now use the buttons to
select CAT (Category), and the FINE TUNE knob to assign your preset to a sound category. Press SAVE
to accept. (You can also press CURSOR and use the buttons to edit an individual character).
  3. Using the BANK/PRESET buttons on the bottom of the front panel, select a save location for your
preset. (If you are already in the bank you want, you can simply choose from PRESET 1-16).
  4. Press and hold SAVE for one second to confirm and complete the save process. To cancel saving,
    simply press the PRESET button.
NOTE: When you first press the SAVE button, the current positions of all sound controls are frozen so
that they can be saved with the preset.

Hi mmarch100, thank you very much for your response. I guess I just wanted reassurance that I wasn’t in danger of saving over the original preset. As I said, I’m new to this and I’m sorry if I came off as a dummy. I really appreciate you replying so quickly.
Have a great weekend!

It’s always scary to think you might overwrite something! The cool thing is you can get all the presets back using the software editor, so even if you do that by accident, it’s fixable

Also very useful for this is the COMPARE function.

Whenever the COMPARE button is lit, you can freely audition the presets while your edited sound remains safe. Use this to find a suitable preset for saving to, as well as for actually comparing your edited sound with stored sounds as part of your sound design process. When the COMPARE function is switched off, your edited sound is brought back for further tweaking or saving.

Thanks again, Mike, and thank you DrJustice for the compare tip!
I will definitely use it!
Warmest Regards,
