I have a question that I couldnt answer, in the course of the testing of the editor plugin for the sub 37 within Ableton, I am sure Amos advised to map the controls, which I did and all works satisfactorily. Someone asked me why would you do that and I cannot answer sufficiently.
I think its so that you can either turn the control on the hardware OR with the mouse in the editor plugin to record the automation either way.
Maybe someone could clarify as I bow to your knowledge of these things
short answer: without mapping, Ableton Live doesn’t know that a certain MIDI CC should be associated with a certain Editor knob… so, if you turn knobs on the Sub 37 while recording in Live, it might record two duplicate tracks of automation: one for the Editor parameter, and another track that is just the plain old MIDI CC values.
If you set up the mapping, then Live “knows” that the MIDI CC is associated with the mapped parameter, and only one automation lane is recorded.
