S&H on OS

I’ve looked through the manual and google, but still can’t figure out how to work the S&H feature on the Voyager OS. I take it that I must feed a -5V to +5V CV into one of the S&H jacks, but this does not make much sense to me. I just got an OS and really want to use sample and hold. Would anyone be so kind as to shed some light on this simple subject?

thank you in advance.

S+H is an LFO option and there are two forms, square and smooth (you’ll see it on the LFO waveform control on upper left of the VOS near the rate knob).

Using LFO as source on one of the two Modulation busses you can apply it to Filter or Pitch or whatever as a destination.

The VX-351 had a jack that let’s you take the control voltage generated and use it elsewhere like into a Fooger (I assume this is the jack you are referring to?)

And if referring to the input jacks ‘on’ the VOS, the gate allows you to determine when to take the ‘sample’ and the other jack allows you to supply a positive or negative voltage source to be sampled (other than the noise that is used internally)

Thank you for your reply. I am indeed referring to the VOS S+H jacks on the rear panel. So, you must use external gear to create the classic sample and hold sound? If not, how do I create that sound with the VOS by itself?

Thank you

After examining the synth again I may see what you mean. Is S+H represented as one if the LFO waveforms? The uneven stair step icon? For some reason I thought the cv jacks were a necessary part of the equation.

It’s rarely used but handy, you could, for instance take a pulse from a Drum machine or midi->CV converted clock to the Gate portion of the S+H via external jacks (or the entire LFO section for that matter), or you can patch in the VX-351 sourced LFO from one of the standard waves then sample it (vs. the built in S+H which is random/based on noise) for a rising and falling sampled filter effect.

If you don’t have a VX-351 but do have a CP-251 or a Multipedal, you can use any of the generated waves as input and even setup a Gate channel from one of the other channels on the Multipedal to grab a new sample when you stomp on the footswitch, etc.

er, yeah, just select the stairstep icon on one of your mod busses, and take it from there! I use it all the time- sounds like you probably need to allocate at least a couple hours and do some knob exploring- not being snide of course, but if you didn’t know you could modulate with s&h, then there’re probably a few more wonderful features you don’t know you have… get a notepad and a beer and do some tweaking!
