Roland PK5s

Anyone want to buy a set?

'Cause, they’re up on ebay right now…for, like, $200.

What the heck? Someone’s giving them away for two hundred bucks? I love this economy! Of course, buying them would be redundant for me as I eagerly await my Taurus III’s.

That would be me. 'Course, they aren’t two hundred any more…

Cruel ebay gremlins cancelled my auction and I had to relist it, so it’s back at $200 again…

I’m keeping my PK-5s, and will MIDI them to my T-3s - that way I’ll have a set of pedals at the front of the stage by my mic stand, and another on the side of the stage beneath my keyboards (my main instrument is the bass guitar). I may even set them over by my guitar player & let him start having some fun with them. It makes sense to grab a set of PK-5s & a used analog modeling synth if you can get 'em cheap - that way you’ll always have a back-up, and you won’t have to haul your T-3s back & forth from the rehearsal space two or three times a week.

That’s heavy. It’s also a solution for the people wanting a 1.5 octave board. Just link it w/ some PK5s, man…so that’s it, the T3s have to be 1 octave now.

I thought they were going to be 1.5 octaves?

Awesome idea! Great way for someone on the road to get a Taurus function and sound without the weight!

Not any more.

I can’t find where it says 1 octave on the Moog website. I’ll take your word for it. I wonder if you’ll have the octave up/down feature like on the LP? If so, 1 octave will be enough for me. Hopefully you’ll have your PK-5’s sold by the time I get my Taurus III.

It’s a joke, man. There’s no need for a 1.5 keyboard when they can create the base unit with one octave and then sell the fabulous .5 octave Moog T3 accessory!

I was joking as well. The .5 octave T3 accessory would be a good option, too, though! :smiling_imp:

You want the extra half-octave? $400.

Works for me! I jumped at the T III’s when they were $1695, so it comes out about even.

Hey I was just reading your reply and was wondering what keyboard/ synthesizer do you use with your PK-5’s to get a T-1 sound?

Got about five hours left, and they’re still pretty cheap…

I use a Roland JP-8000 analog modeling synth, and I have written about 8 Taurus emulation patches for our Rush and prog covers. Some of them are darned close, especially for live performance where some of the nuances of real analog sound can get lost in the din of a live band in a loud club. The reason I’m footing the bill (pun intended) for real Taurus again is to have them for recording and and live performance - while modelling can get you close, real analog is superior when recording, and there is NOTHING like real Taurus played live at concert volume.
