The Great Jazz pianist died Wed at 91 on the eve of his 92nd birthday
Yep. Pity, but one can’t hope much more to live to 91 and leave a lasting legacy.
My cat is named Brubeck too, but he can’t play Take 5 at all.
Bet your Cat has a great ver. of Take 9 though ![]()
Many of you live outside of the NYC Metro area but maybe you catch WBGO on the internets.
Anyway, Michael Bourne spoke a bit last evening about Mr. Brubeck. Credits him for changing his life in that Countdown was the first Jazz record that he ever listened to, recalls interviewing him at his home some 9-10 years ago and asking him to play the first track.
I can’t find the ‘report’ from last night; it’s a good backdrop, but there is a link to the WBGO website and some Dave Brubeck interviews: http://www.wbgo.org/blog/in-memoriam-dave-brubeck
I’ve always loved Donald Fagen’s video/song tribute to Brubeck, “New Frontier.”

BTW, look at the URL above.
It has “Bru” in there!
Thelonius Moog does his treatment:

Great video Eric, Thanks for the post. ![]()
Randomly walked into a NYC Apple Store in 2009 and he was about to do a Time Out 50th anniversary show. Of course I stuck around.
I was thinking what’s the Moog connection (Thelonius Moog aside). Still don’t know. Without question fine contributions to jazz and music in general.
