Hi all,
Im looking for info, specifically, the best and unobtrusive way to turn the model d’s keyboard on/off.
I want to avoid the craziness when controlling with a sequencer.
I have been using a dark time and it was fine with no tuning trouble when the keybaord was unhooked and disassembled when I was repairing it.
I dont want to take it apart everytime.
Is there an easy proven reversable method, since the boards value could be lowered,
something like swapping out the two input jacks by the wheels for switches.
Any suggestions?
Has anyone ever done such things?
thanks much
Personally, I sometimes use an external MIDI-to-cv to control my Mini, plugged in the trigger and ext oscillator jacks. And I like the fact that I can instantly transpose to any key just by pressing a note on the original keyboard.
If I wanted to be able to easily disconnect/connect the keyboard, I would prolong the wires coming from the keyboard and pass them thru the hole where the wires from the panel are presently going in, in the back of the Minimoog on the right (viewed from the back). That way, I could have easy access to both male and female Cinch-Jones connectors from the back, inside the empty space when the panel is lifted.
I don’t recommend this, however, unless you replace those connectors with either brand new ones, or another type. Since old Cinch-Jones connectors tend to get corroded with time, and are notorious for bad contacts.
My two cents on it.
Thanks for that Alien, unfortunatley I have two midi possibilities a Dark Time and a midi to cv converter and they both covert to cv. When using them with the keyboard the voltage adds up so the pitch gradualy gets higher and higher. Ill think and research a bit more maybe I can learn how to do it… I may have to just leave it as a stand alone instrument or sell it.
thanks for the advice Alien, I guess Ill try to work something out.
Found it!
Was looking through my old Mini paperwork for the 360 Systems Slavedriver manual for the mod to the Mini. They suggest removing the Osc in on the back of the Mini and connecting the loose connection to ground. However you could also replace one of the glide/decay jacks and place it there too. The reason they probably wanted this function intact for using the Slavedriver with a decay and glide on/off switch.
I really liked the fact that the osc input on the back summed with the keyboard voltage. My first sequencer was a Polyfusion AS-1 back around 1978, and transposing the sequences was half the fun.
The scan is a little large, but the writing is small. A little dirty as this page is about 33 years old? ![]()

Hi CZ;
thanks very much for digging it out. I think I may try it as I want to take the thing apart again anyways to do a bit more restoration. Very kind of you-
cheers

So you had fun w/o without this mod?
Im am going to try a few different things with hook up prior to making a comittment.
