I think it’s a shame to see some people be so ignorant towards the MG-1, but I guess I should be thankful at the same time as it is not nearly as expensive as the Rogue (yet).
It’s a great instrument in it’s own right and I prefer it even to the Prodigy just because of that great belltone and the added S&H mode to the LFO. I also prefer that I’m able to control the LFO’s mod amt of the filter and pitch individually with the sliders, so the lack of a mod wheel doesn’t really matter for me either.
Compared to the Rogue, I like the fact that you have individual octave and waveform switching which the Rogue lacks. The bell tone is great as well, without resonance it produces a hard FM like tone which I’m very fond of.
I’m having my MG-1 serviced soon, just waiting for the fader/switch/pot replacement from technologytransplant to arrive. I’m going to have it modified at the same time to replace the RCA with 1/4" tele jacks with signal boost at the back as well as audio in through that great filter. Can’t wait till it’s done!
Hi btw, I’m Dan aka eXode and I’m new on this forum.
i was thinking that as i looked a some piccies of the MG-1 - it’s actually better than my Rogue. Just ignore the Poly section (ahem) and it’s actually a more flexible Rogue.
Likewise for my Rogue. i just got the black gunk out of my Rogue and the sliders were nasty, plus those funky slider knobs are splitting, so this is a great upgrade.
The MG-1’s closest relative seems to be the Liberation. It lacks the triangular waveform options on the oscs and separate envelopes for filter and amp that the Liberation has.
Either way, MG-1, Rogue, Prodigy, Liberation and all of the rest are all very fine instruments in their own right and what is attractive to one may be repulsive to another.
Update: I’ve had my MG-1 serviced and slightly modded. I’m picking it up this thursday.
I’ve had all the sliders/pots/switched replaced and had it retuned.
Removed the RCA outs/ins on the back and added 1/4 tele jacks instead.
The new output has gotten a simple signal boost and the input is routed through the filter.
Finally, the PU have been modded from 110v to 220 v and gotten the powerchord replaced to euro format.
by the way just wanted to have one representative voice saying that the poly section on this is awesome, expressive, and very useful contrary to popular opinion. i have used it on many many tracks
