I posted this Question on the ‘stand-alone’ Taurus Forum a few months back but got no replies, hopefully someone may be able to help on this Forum?
When I first received my Taurus III’s I overwrote a few of the Factory Presets to create my own settings, I wish I hadn’t written over one particular Preset and would like to know if there is a any way of re-instating it without doing a complete factory re-set whereby I would lose all of the other settings/channels that I’ve created?
The Preset that I want to restore was originally located at H2 and is called “Abyss”.
i don’t want to do a factory re-set as I will lose everything I have saved on there and am not sure if I try to save to my PC (never tried it yet) whether I will be able to pick and choose which of the saved presets I can re-load back on (and not re-overwrite on H2 obviously).
As Mr Arkadin suggested it may be that someone could give me all the settings for the “Abyss” Preset?
I’ve been reading the Owner’s Manual in greater detail and it does in fact describe how to save (and restore) individual Presets.
Ideally what you need to do is to start with a new and un-adulterated T3 set-up and then do a global save using the Sys-Ex function, you then have a complete set of original Presets and settings. You can then alter and save the Presets as you wish and if you want to restore a particular Preset you can do so, however if I’m reading it correctly you can only restore it to its original location?
Anyway, I think that answers that particular query, but for now I think I will try altering the individual parameters that Mr Arkadin has listed manually.
Anybody got any ideas on where to download software that will run the Sys-Ex routines?
I use MIDI-OX. Looking at the T3 manual again I see it can dump individual presets. In that case what would usually happen is you would first have to save all the factory patches individually (wish I’d thought to do that), then when you wanted to reload a patch it will load itself into RAM - I imagine it will have an asterix at this point. Then you would have to save it to whatever location you wanted otherwise it would be lost if you go to a different patch or switch off. This is good because it means you don’t blow away any already saved patches - assuming it works like all my other kit.
I’ve already downloaded and installed Midi-Ox in the meantime as I’d seen it referred to on either this or the dedicated Taurus Forum.
Yes, that’s the same conclusion that I came to, i.e. you need to (initially) do a global dump of the original Presets and Settings. I think how the Manual reads is that you can only restore a Preset to the location that it was saved from, thereon you could, (if you wanted to), save it to another location.
I’ve yet to hook ‘the Beast’ up to the Laptop to try out the Sys-Ex through Midi-Ox, it should be interesting! As I said, for now I intend on trying the settings that you’ve given me for the ‘Abyss’ Preset as I don’t want to risk screwing-up all the Presets that I’ve created.
No, you misread me. It’s not a global dump, but a per individual patch dump that you need to do. Of course this would mean dumping each patch one at a time. Then when you reload the single patch it will be in RAM, NOT in any location until you actually press the save button and scroll to a location.
I think I might have a go, but it will take some time as I have some custom patches so I’ll have to save those first, reset to factory, then save patches individually. Might be helpful to some to have the factory patches available like that then it would be easier for us to swap patches (ie. not global blowing the T3 each time).
Further to my last post I have it all working. Here’s what I did:
To save an individual preset:
Open MIDI-OX. In the SysEx window (View>SysEx) choose “SysEx>Receive Manual Dump…”.
On the T3 go to SysEx utilities and use “Send Current Preset”. It will be very small.
Hit “Done” in MIDI-OX and go to “Display Window>Save As” and name the file as per preset name.
To load a single preset:
From the SysEx Window choose “File>Send SysEX File…”
If you’re worried about blowing away a preset just sit the T3 on one of the first four patches as these are locked.
Navigate the browser that opens to where you saved the preset. Click on it and it will be sent immediately. If you parked your T3 on say the Taurus III preset you will get a warning message “Cannot Save, Factory Preset”. You can now hit save on the T3 as normal and navigate to where you want to save it.
With this in mind find attached the preset Abyss Bass. Abyss.zip (373 Bytes)
I followed your instructions and have successfully re-instated the ‘Abyss’ Preset!
Having not used anything like Midi-Ox before it took me a short while to figure out how to use it and that you have to do such things as manually select the T3 as an Input and an Output device, but I got there in the end. I didn’t get a warning message however when the T3 was parked on the Fixed Presets, it loaded it on there but obviously it wouldn’t have let me save it. I just selected the destination Preset where I wanted it to go and Stored it.
Many thanks for all your help, it has now given me the confidence to do further things with my T3 without the fear of screwing everything up!
