Questions about voyager

Hello everyone. I have a Voyager Electric Blue Serial number 331 that Ive had over a year now and I have a couple questions.

My first question is about velocity. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Turning it on and off doesnt fix it. Its an odd pattern. Sometiems it will work for a few weeks, and then out of nowhere it just wont.. When it doesnt work it just registers maximum for all keys no matter how soft or hard you press them. When it does work it seems rather sensitive and you have to touch the keys very lightly for it to register anything less than max. When playing normally, it registers maximum. changing the velocity curve in MASTER doesnt make any difference. Any ideas what might cause this? I have updated the software to version 3.4 and it hasnt made any difference.

Also, I hear there are a few updates available such as aftertouch and filter glide mod. Mine has the upgraded memory hardware, but I’m wondering what the aftertouch update is and if I should have that done. Are there any other hardware updates available that I may not know of? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure you tested it always with the same preset? Velocity is individual programmable for each preset.
Rudi

Yeah, This would be the same preset. Also, when I set up a sound manually that uses velocity as a shaping source is how I know if its working or not. At the moment, its reading everything as max no matter how hard or soft I press key. For a few months it was behaving normally, but it started not working again.

Is it possible for you to test the velocity on a synth/keyboard on the Voyager’s MIDI out?
Have fun,
Rudi

Loose contact of the keyboard to left hand section connection ?

Hallo Till,
I don’t think so - the data from the keyboard is serial and if there’s a bad contact or so the Voyager will get no data from the keyboard. Missing velocity is a programming problem of the preset (or the user  ).
Have fun,
Rudi

Ok if the keyboard data is serial, a loose contact would not harm the velocity only. And detecting problems with hardware that decodes the data is beyond the typical user abilities.

Thanks for the input everyone. I did some more experimenting with the voyager today, but unfortunately without any success. The hard part is trying to pinpoint where the problem lies. Would anyone have suggestions to anything I can do to try to isolate where the problem is?
Thanks

A few things I forgot to add. The aftertouch doesnt work at all. If I remember correctly, I don’t think it ever did. I tried logging data with midiOX, but I am unsure how to determine if it is sending velocity. From what I could tell, the only thing that was different was the note pressed, and whether it was on or off.

Would the aftertouch upgrade be a fix for this not working? And maybe the velocity too? Also is the filter glide part of the same modification, or is it completely different?
