question. grrr

So after deciding to get an LP I found a retailer in Chicago offering an exhibition Stage 2 for $899. I emailed them to see if anything was wrong with, they said it was in mint condition, no scratches or dents and working perfectly. I finally set enough money aside 2 days ago and ordered it online. They emailed confirmation and charged my card $928. They called the next day and said “someone beat me to it” and they no longer had the exhibition model. They offered to ship me a brand new one for an extra $137. It’s still a hell of a deal getting a brand new one for $1050 but according to Illinois consumer law they have to sell it to me at $899. I left it with them that I would call in a few days to pay the extra $137. They still have my $928.

So, should I just accept I am getting a good deal on a new LP or demand it for the price I have already paid?? Their website never stated they only had one exhibition model and they had a quantity box meaning I could have ordered and been charged for 10 if I really wanted to.

careful: they could also return your payment and refuse to do business with you. when you approach them treat them with diplomacy or they will become defensive and unwilling to compromise.

what’s the old saying? “you catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinegar.”

+1, they have every right to return your money at no consequence to them. I’d suck it up and get a good deal while you can.

…and then never do business w/ them again.

They baited and switched. Its not a priveledge to do business with them, its a priveledge for them to get your money.

Id ask for one at the price they advertised or Id just ask for a refund. They just tok your money and THEN told you that they didn’t have the unit you specified. They shoudl have contacted you first before charging your card. Now that they have the majority of your money you can easily be suckered into paying just a little more.

There are other places where you can get a good deal on it. I don’t think that under those circumstances that 1065 is that great of a deal.

try novamusik but their website is down right now. You should be able to get them for under a thousand if you know where to look.

I think Moog might have some say in this since it has everything to do with their product. Complain to them.

I remember a repair shop that ruined a Kurzweil of mine and only made it right after I contacted Young Chang about it.

There’s no where I can find offering a brand new one for $1050. There is a few place’s online selling customer returns with blemishes, dents, or scratches but I want my LP to look as good as it sounds. According to Illinois state consumer law they are required to sell it at the price I paid AFAIK. My source is a little vague.

Call and talk or email Chuck, tell him your story. Especially since he is just a few miles from Chicago he will want the business.

Tell him that you hears from many people that they are the best Moog dealers.

Eric

I bought my LPS2 for $1250, zero shipping, from sweetwater, with a two year warranty out the door.

I doubt you’ll find anyone that can beat that non-extended two year warranty.

thanks erick, I just emailed Chuck.

sweetwater have the best customer service. I got my monitors there and they’re follow up call to confirm is awesome. Can’t beat some candy in the box too. Great service

Sweetwater does have some good customer service, but ive heard some horrow stories about their no hassle return policy.

Believe me, you paid for that candy AND the magazines they put in there sometimes.

I seen that but want the stage 2 for the arpeggiator and midi clock sync =)

my monitors came with white specks on the cabinet and I emailed them just to let them know. they offered to send a replacement and pay to ship them back. didn’t want to go through the hassle so just kept them. Quick and easy to deal with from my experience

Another + for Sweetwater. I’ve been giving them most my money for a few years now & I love my reps.. bend over backwards for me. Great place.

I called the Expert Audio Center manager and informed him of the Illinois state consumer law…

EAC “I don’t what law your talking about, I am just going to refund you”
ME “I would rather it shipped to me for the price i’ve paid”
EAC “I am not doing that, im refunding you”

Anytime I tried to say anything else he cut me off by saying he’s refunding me. Rude, not understanding and doesn’t care about his mistake and the consumer law to protect us from this.

I called this morning and still haven’t been refunded. All in all DON NOT DEAL with these cowboys. I’ve emailed Moog.

I’m sure you’ll get refunded.

Yeah it will take a few days for the bank to process your thing. If you want go to the BBB or mail them a copy of the law.

I told you, they obviously baited and switched you, be it intentionally or not it still happened. Call novamusik i guarentee you that youll be more than pleased…and if you are in the chicago area its not a far drive to go there in person as they are in milwaukee.

Next time you’re ready to buy new gear do this:

  1. shop around and find the lowest price
  2. find another seller that can beat it or match it plus sweeten the deal somehow
  3. keep doing that until you find the lowest price or best deal possible

It’s like buying a car, they will haggle.

I’m the biggest scavenger for deals and do way too much research into things. I am hoping Nova Music can match EAC price of $1050. Eric there told me $1099 and as much as I would love to give my business to them over EAC $49 is a fair bit of doh in these financial times
