Hey guys. For my new JD73 band im doing left hand bass on my Voyager AE. Its the only thing that gets me the sound im after. However, im worried as the black paint comes off so easily. Im wondering a)if Moog do any sort of kit for touching up the paint or b) if there are any sort of rubber corner protectors that anyone has made or found that could be placed over the corners to stop paint/cabinet damage. Im having to transport the Voyager in the gig bag and not the ata case as i already have loads of other gear to shift on my own and cant fit the ata case in my car with all the other gear.
I have the old ATA case which is bigger than the current one. At first I was reluctant to get it because of its size. However, in use I have found it easy to transport my AE. The wheels and location of the case’s handles make it easy to move about. Because it is so sturdy, I can stack other equipment on top. To this day, my AE looks brand new despite my lugging it all around the eastern USA.
Yeah, get someone else in the band to take something off your hands so that you’ll have room for the ATA case! You have the case, you need to use it, and your band mates need to understand that.
Im gonna be doing shows on my own though sometimes so its not practical to take the ATA. Its HUGE. So im gonna have to find some sort of rubber caps for putting on the corners for gigging.
maybe you can make (or have made) a hard case with minimal padding, say 1/2" of foam all around? that seems like something the guys at calzone or something similarly UK-based could handle.. that way you can keep it protected with only a little size overhead..
i’ve listened to a lot of your stuff on youtube, it’s really good, as you know.. your youtube videos helped me make the decision to ditch my electro 2 for a new 3..
The front and rear corners have two structures that could serve to anchor a rubber pad without having to glue it. Those are the 1/2 inch vertical end caps, and the bottom surface. If you could fabricate something that would fit over those, you could then hold them in place using bungee cords, bicycle tire inner tubes, or something along those lines. You’ll want to use fairly hard rubber for those corner caps, as anything else would not hold up. Also, you’ll want to line the corner caps with suede or some other soft fabric that won’t scratch or abrade the paint. Perhaps just wrapping each end with an inner tube would do the trick? Or, wrapping an inner tube around the outside edges of the cabinet? Whatever you do, make sure the protector doesn’t end up doing harm of its own.
Why would you risk it? Get a hard shell for Pete’s sake! I’ve had a Moog case since day one, yes its slightly bigger, but the safety and insurance factor outweigh (pun intended) the cost and space consumption. I rehearse weekly, and have gigs monthly. After years, the Voyager still looks mint.
Not sure about the price for Anvil, but my Moog Voyager case was about $250.
Currently I’m using the Voyager Gig Bag with an additional Voyager Dust Cover to get a better protection against the hard internal straps of the Gig Bag. I’m using the Bag simply because of its low weight. However it seems that I would need a better protecting solution. In that content I would like to ask what is the actual weight of the Moog Molded ATA Case for Voyager.
On the Moog page it is indicated as yet lightweight. What does this means in kg (or maybe lbs)?
