Proper way to clean a synth

Hello. I have a Voyager RME and a Little Phatty Tribute and was wondering what the proper way to clean them is. Someone on another forum said he uses denatured alcohol to clean and armor all to protect. Seems like it could work but I wanted to see what other people do before I try it.

Thanks.

No WAY I would use alcohol on the finish of my moog stuff.

I’d use, and have used dilute soapy water on a clean cloth. Always worked a treat.

I used some rubbing alcohol on one of my first restorations…stupidly…and completely bleached my opus panel…it was actually funny/sad at the same time…

From the LP User’s Manual:

“Clean the Little Phatty with a soft, moist cloth only – do not use solvents or abrasive detergents. The finish of the wood end caps can be cleaned with a guitar polish, or a fine furniture polish.”

I’m reasonably sure that the Voyager manual says the same thing.

Manual…what’s a manual?

Maybe it’s time to take it out of it’s nice plastic bag.

There are polishes out there that can sometimes help this problem.

My worst mistake like that was in 1989.
A reciprocating fan picked up solvent I was spraying inside one synth and deposited it across a Memorymoog’s keyboard!
I offered the owner (who worked at Roland US) a choice:
$400 for the actual repair and I’d replace his keyboard action free (possible back then fairly easily)

or an excellent working leopard spotted keyboard for free.
He chose the 2nd option.

I haven’t used one of those fans in my shop for over 17 years now.
This is probably why..
