Product Suggestion: Simple Desktop Synth/Expander by Moog Music
Specs:
1 VCO
1 VCF
1 VCA
1 ENV
1 LFO
1 RingMod
This desktop synth is inspired by the Doepfer Dark Energy but with a different feature set. It would feature some CV in’s and outs and the size would be close to 3 foogers next to eachother or maybe it could be fitted in the same space as two CP-251’s even. The CP-251 would be a great partner to increase modulation options. The user would be able to process external audio through either the ringmod, the filter or both.
A great feature to this synth would be Poly Chain, so that you could get 2 or 4 (or more) units and have them act like a simple polyphonic synth.
Or even a desktop version of the Little Phatty at a lower retail price. Surely there must be a market for such a product? Personally I wouldn’t even require patch memory. Just the hardware and the MIDI + I/O!
You know, I have a theory. A lot of us have submitted designs for Moog on this very public place, and then Doepfer comes out with this strangely MoogerFooger looking like device with some of our most requested features.
Yeah, the Dark Energy looks quite tasty but I believe it has a completely different sound due to it’s oscillator and CEM filter. Apparently it’s the same filter as the one found inside the SixTrak. I wonder if Dieter will make some kind of expander to it following the same theme…
I’d love some kind of simple Dark Energy - like synth with some left of center capabilities, and use of 1/4" patch cords instead of those 1/8" ones on the DE.
