Prodigy Question

Hi all, I’m new to the board but have been a reader for a while.

I’ve had a moog prodigy for about 4 yrs now. It is in perfect cosmetic condition and I’ve taken super good care of it, and until now I’ve never had a problem with it. Recently when I took it out.. I turned on the OSC MOD switch and noticed the notes when i press any key start switching octaves like crazy… then I turn the switch off and it’s fine again. My MOD wheel is acting up too. Can anyone give me some tips here?

Thanks!

Get some spray cleaner at Radio Shack, carefully open up your Prodigy, remove the circuit board, look behind the control panel to see where the switch is located on the circuit board, clean the switch contacts thoroughly with a soft toothbrush and spray cleaner. While your at it, clean the other switches and pots, including the pots inside the mod wheel assembly. Go ahead and scrub into the switches, clean them as well as you can. Don’t spray directly onto the board, spray onto your toothbrush and then scrub your switches, pots, etc.

This will most likely solve your problems. If you’re very careful, and gentle handling all of the Prodigy parts, you probably won’t break anything. If you do, it’s nothing that can’t be fixed, and it needs to be repaired to begin with, so you may as well give it a shot yourself.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that it should be unplugged before attempting the above. Also, let it dry thoroughly before plugging in again or turning on. A few hours should be fine.

Do some research on the internet as well, look for pictures and descriptions of people doing the above procedures. Take all precautions that you read about. Don’t do anything you’re not sure of. If you’re not sure about something, stop what your doing and write to some science circuit guy you find on the internet.
