My old Prodigy seems to be running into an issue that I was hoping someone could shed some light on…
When I have the loudness decay set to anything other than zero, I no longer get a nice decay of the note played, but rather a very high-pitched ringing sound follows the note. This high frequency tone lasts as long as the decay is set at…
Does anyone know what the issue could be?
Thanks,
Sam
Edit: Hmm… it seems the Glide is no longer functional as well. This all happened today.
The keyboard has a S&H that holds the pitch CV when you release the note. This S&H is malfunctioning, when you let the note go the picth CV is jumping to maximum and that’s why you have the high pitch.
Thanks… is this something that’ll be difficult to repair?
It all depends on what’s wrong and who the tech is.
For example, it might be transistor Q20.
This is an E112 FET transistor.
Not something always easy to find.
An experienced Moog tech will have an original, another competent tech will know how to locate a suitable replacement.
But the possibility exists you might get a tech that doesn’t understand the problem, where to get parts and messes everything up trying.
So it’s a completely subjective question.
If you don’t mind, may I ask if there’s any possibility someone spilled something in or on it recently?
Did anything change from the time it was last known working?
Unfortunately the tech i relied on where I am (Nashville) doesn’t seem to do any synth work anymore. I’m in the process of searching for another one..
I know the change that happened, actually… Fortunately it wasn’t a spill… I was rearranging my setup, and moved the prodigy to the floor for a few minutes, and then put it back --nothing traumatic, really. But that move certainly appears to be the culprit.
My hope is that something just got unseated in the move.
