As predicted, prices on the Taurus 1s are starting to drop. There are more sets for sale on the 'Bay right now than I’ve ever seen before at one time. I’m so glad I ordered my T-3s. I almost bought some T-1s for $3K, and the day I pulled the money out of the bank was the day Moog announced the T-3s - talk about luck & good timing!
Also note the economy. Prices of ALL gear have slide a bit (or a lot).
Yep. Though some gear is still fetching ridiculous prices. Take the Yamaha CS-80 that sold for $10,000 not too long ago. ![]()
i scan the bay quite regularly and most items are still fetching their same prices. items that have saturated the bay, such as the Korg microKorg, have slumped. But the “rare” items have held their pricing. I would postulate that most interested in buying a set of Taurus pedals have made the investment in the T3’s already or are waiting until their release for confirmation of sound/features and then purchase. With another 1000 (or more depending on their success) flooding into the market I strongly doubt the Taurus 1’s will hold their $2000+ prices unless the T3’s do not sound true to the original. EXCEPTIONS of course will be the odd purchase by a museum curator in need to fill their collection.
I stand by my previous statement in thread: http://www.moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6424
“Best of luck to anyone hoping to dump their antiques for big $$$. Get it now while you can.”
Bravo to Tom Oberheim for releasing the SEM. Let’s hope Yamaha and Korg will augment their plastic workstation lines with some new or reissued analogs, too! Who could resurrect ARP?
Right now, ALL gear is selling for less. Taurus 1 pedals sound like Taurus 1’s. Taurus 2’ sound like Taurus 2’s. Taurus 3’s will sound like Taurus 3’s. Not buying a set of Taurus 1’s, and waiting for Taurus 3’s is like comparing a Minimoog to a Voyager. Apples and oranges. I still think $4000 for Taurus 1’s in excellent condition is a steal. Moog only made 2000 or less Taurus 1’s. I ordered a set of Taurus 3’s, and I own 2 Taurus 1’s. I didn’t like the sound of the Taurus 2’s, so I sold those. Linda told me that the Taurus 3’s will be shipping in December or later. That’s all I have, except that I regret selling my PPG 2.3.

I have Taurus 1 and 2 but never sell them.
I love them and I am waiting for 3 as well.
Have you seen & heard the recently posted youtube T-3 testing clip? The T-3s sound like original Taurus to me, and I have owned a few sets. While the Voyager was never intended to be an exact sonic clone of the original mini, the Taurus 3s ARE supposed to duplicate the sounds of the original Taurus, and I stand by my prediction - the Taurus 1 prices are going to drop dramatically. Even if they don’t drop in price, the originals are no longer practical for us gigging musicians, especially when compared to the T-3s with their lighter weight, modernized interfaces and warranty. Let’s face it - if the Taurus 3s deliver on their potential, then the Taurus 1s can all be sent to the La Brea tar pits and the museums where they belong.
Id still love to have a Model D/ Taurus 1 setup to compare to my Voyager Taurus setup any day.
Get a polymoog and a new polyphonic Moog when they make it and have 2 constellations lolololol.
Well not exactly but still.
Eric
So I guess the Taurus 2’s were supposed to replace the Taurus 1’s? The Voyager “old school” is supposed to replace the original Minimoog. (That’s how it’s being marketed). Moog only made 2000 Taurus 1’s, and Moog Music is only making 1000 Taurus 3’s. I ordered number 450 in hopes they will sound as good or better than the Taurus 1’s. Forget about Taurus 2’s, Prophet 5 rev 3’s, and anything made in the last 10 years. Who needs MIDI? Sting bought my Taurus 1’s from me a couple of years ago, and he toured the world with them without a problem. I guess he wouldn’t be considered a gigging musician. Enjoy your frat parties, weddings, bar-mitzvah’s, and Holiday Inns in Colorado with your “lightweight, MIDI’ied, user friendly interfaced” Taurus 3’s. Let’s face it, anybody even remotely interested in Moog Taurus Bass Pedals is a Rush fan. If you disagree, you are a liar.
Even my wife doesn’t understand your posting about the youtube video. You are hearing a third generation audio sample through your computer, which in no way would give a fair representation of anything. The Moog Taurus 3 sample on the Moog website is a sample of a Taurus 1. Also, if modern technology (sampling) is the answer, we would have 1 keyboard with samples of B3’s, Fender Rhodes, PPG’s, Moog’s, and CS80’s. None of these virtual/softsynths sound good, that’s why they are 100 bucks. Plus you look like an idiot/nerd with a laptop on stage. Guitar players get all the pussy anyway.
Try this. Listen to the Moog Music Taurus III video. Then listen to a video of the Taurus I. If the Taurus III sounds like a Taurus I on YouTube, taking into account compression and initial microphone quality, guess what? Chances are they’re going to sound alike in person, as well. As for your comment about guitar players, totally irrelevent and untrue. Ask Keith Emerson. ![]()
So I guess Sting is a Rush fan? I won’t argue with that logic, because of course, I am also a Rush fan. Gotta problem with that? I personally am not buying these for MIDI, but because I wanted the true Taurus I sound at a reasonable price with a warranty. I personally am not willing to spend 2-5 grand on thirty year old equipment that may or may not need servicing. There is no need for your attitude. Why not try being respectful?
Keith Emerson? I saw some old video of him stabbing an organ with daggers or knives or something. Corny, Vegas crap. Now Rush is still selling out 60,000 seat arenas around the world, and The Police just got off a world tour. I have ELP’s greatest hits, and there is one good song on it. (Lucky Man). I have 2 Taurus 1’s, and I spend $100 to tune them up about every five years. I hope these Taurus 3’s are everything they say they are. I bought 2 of them. I am an opinionated fellow, and I am direct. My responses are directed toward the guy in Colorado who thinks he is lucky and smart by buying a new piece of equipment that has a warranty. Even a 100 dollar Mexican strat has a warranty, but it’s still a piece of sh*t. I have too much disposable income. Have a great day!!
I know you didn’t just compare Moog to a Mexican Strat.
Fwiw, even if you buy an American Strat, chances are it was still built by Mexicans. So what’s the difference? When you buy a Moog product, you expect a high quality instrument made in America by Americans…unless you buy a Little Phatty. Those are mostly Chinese. Still high quality, just not AS high of a quality. Still well worth the money, though, and still PUT TOGETHER in America from Chinese parts.
The Taurus II was never meant to compare to a Taurus I, but the Taurus III was meant to compare to a Taurus I. And Moog shall deliver. IMHO, if you can justify spending 5 grand on 30 year old pedals that need $100 checkups every five years, then you have more money than brains. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, so don’t take that the wrong way. ![]()
attention ebay seller’s selling taurus 1’s:
kimber has disposable income, loves taurus 1’s, and will probably purchase them from you to later sell to aging rock stars (that he may or may not directly know, we guess).

Now you are talking to me baby. I love Austin. I went to college there. Since I can fly for free, maybe I will take a trip to Moog headquarters and find out what’s really going on. I will keep you posted. Where’s Waukegan? I thought it was in Wisconsin. I do know where the guy in Colorado is. It’s a pretty nice suburb, and I don’t think any musicians live there. It’s mostly doctors, lawyers, airline pilots, and hedge fund managers. Hey, check out ebay, there’s a set of Taurus 1’s for $4600…and they are beat up.
Moog is in Asheville North Carolina. I’m 50 miles from Chicago Illinois, and very close to the Wisconsin border. Timmy is in Austin, and yes, Austin is a very nice city. Also, I refuse to spend 10% of what I make in a year on a falling apart Taurus I. You’ve got money; if it’s so awesome, YOU buy it! ![]()
uh… neat.
As long as you are doing research on my suburb, there are actually quite a few musicians here on the Ranch (many of them are very good, and we play at Denver’s top-paying clubs & bars, not frat parties, weddings or bar mitzvahs), and quite a few regular working-class folk (like me) as well. As for Sting, I don’t think he qualifies as a “gigging musician” (we gigging musicians actually haul & set up our own gear) - I would say he’s a rock star - a rock star who probably would have toured with Taurus 3s if they had been available during his last tour. As for the Taurus 1s for $4600, they have been sitting there (and will continue to sit) for quite a while, along with the T-1s priced in the 3k range. If you want to make your point, try using your grey matter instead of your insults & assumptions - you will get a lot more respect from me and my fellow forum members (Thank You, Voltor & Timmy). Cheers! Oh, you were right about one thing - I do love Rush.
O.K. I just sold a set of Taurus 1’s for $5000!! It seems my grey matter just out performed your $50 a night gig…and I didn’t have to haul any gear around. They were an early serial number in excellent condition. I told him that he could buy 2 Taurus 3’s, but he isn’t convinced the sound will be the same. He bought a Voyager, and then sold it for a real Minimoog. Oh, I gave him a year warranty (the same that Moog will offer on the Taurus 3’s). OUCH!! There’s always somebody smarter than you. Good luck!!!
