I am the proud papa of a newT3. I am looking for suggestions for a powered monitor. Currently from my mixer I have 2 M-audio BX5A’s and 2 Dynaudio BM5A’s. Feeding these are a Korg M50, Korg Triton Extreme, Korg R3, Roland SH 201 and a Prophet 08. I need and would like a good powered monitor to add to this system or run separtly. Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Well, you want something with lots of low end. Is this for studio use? If so, then size will probably be something to consider, especially given the amount of gear you already have. Unfortunately, I haven’t been impressed with smaller bookshelf systems, even when running a Little Phatty bass patch through them. I personally would go for something with a 12" or larger subwoofer. The more expensive KMK systems with subwoofers are quite nice.
That is what I figured as much and it is for studion use, I was looking at a KRK 8" powered sub as as starting point. May have to move up as you suggest. They do cost a bit, but thats OK, My Dynaudios were $300 each, but a good investment. So I will check out the 12" sub. Thanks.
Still looking for multiple opinions, thanks to all..
Scored a KRK-10s today and it is amazing. I have the volume just barely cracked to about 9 o’clock with the lowpass set at 80Hz and the result is epic to say the least.
The 10s has a cool feature where you send the stereo outs from your mixer through the sub first, select the lowpass between 50-130Hz and then send the output on to your regular monitors. It also has an input for a latching footswitch so you can turn the sub on or off while listening to audition your mix with or without the sub. Definitely plenty of power for home use. Rated to deliver 150 watts RMS and 225w peak.
After playing the T3 through the KRK last night I feel like I’ve finally heard what the T3 can really do.
Agreed! Since I have had my KRK 10, I have experimented with different levels and the foot switch is a great option when the wife needs a bit of peace. Oh and not only have I realized what the T-3 sound is supposed to be, but I have felt it! The KRK 10 has made a huge impact on my other equipment as well.
After about three weeks my S10 developed a mechanical “buzzing” sound from between C1 to B1 frequency range.
Like something was really rattling loose inside the cab. because I was under the 30-day mark Guitar Center swapped it out with no hassles.
And this occured without ever running the cab past about 9 o’clock on the volume knob, with the cutoff set for 80Hz.
If your amp starts buzzing return it immediately!
And another thing I noticed is the S10 could really use a pilot light ON THE FRONT of the cab, just to remind me that it’s still turned on late at night before shutting things down.
