I have a Minitaur and have recently misplaced my power supply, i have ordered another but in the mean time i’m using a 12VDC 1000mA power supply. As far as i know the official power supply for a Minitaur is 12VDC 12000mA. Is using the temporary 1000mA power supply detrimental to my Minitaur?

That should be fine. The Minitaur is rated at 7W of consumption @ 12V; there are internal regulators that split and rectify, I’m sure, but if you do the math, that only equates to 583mA.
If it doesn’t boot or freaks out then hey, I was wrong 
Be absolutely positive that you have the polarity correct, however!
I connected my Minitaur up today and it was working ok for a minute, then all the lights flickered in sync with low freq osc sound for 5sec, then it powered itself off. Reconnected power cable - no lights come on and there’s no sound. Reconnected all the cables, used other power socket, no help. Beginning to get a bit worried here. Absolutely no lifesigns since the flickering, could some circuit have fried in the unit. I don’t think it’s a power suppy problem since the led on that indicates it’s working.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
