Possible volume issue with the MF-103

I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue. I bought the MF-103 12-Stage Phaser a little over a month ago, and I noticed that with my other Moogerfooger pedals (Analog Delay and Clusterflux), when the output is turned all the way up and the drive is all the way down, the volume is the same regardless of whether the pedal is activated. However, with those same settings the MF-103 is noticeably quieter when it is activated. I have to turn the drive up about a third of the way for the volumes to even out. Is that normal with this pedal, or is it possible that the one I have is defective?

Thanks,
Bryan

Hmm, I’ve noticed the same thing with mine. I’ve only had it about a month, so I don’t know if it’s normal, but it does seem different than my other 'foggers. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that there isn’t a MIX knob on the 103…

That could be it. As long as it’s not defective, it’s not a big deal. It would be nice if it was like the other pedals, though.

I agree. I’m not sure why they didn’t include a MIX knob on it. It may have something to do with the phasing effect. I honestly don’t have enough technical knowledge to say though.

Anyone else care to chime in here? ha. Preferably someone more knowledgable.

That is normal the volume of the phaser active is independent of the bypassed volume. I usually have the output level at about 4:00 and the drive at about 11:00 or when ever the drive led just starts to turn yellow.

It’s not an issue if you set your gain staging as per recommended. Read the fine manual again about how to set the drive and output stages. There are times when you may want to deviate from those suggestions, though I don’t hear a good reason why you have the output all the way up and the drive all the way down. The signal path is not optimized for that kind of setting and you’re likely to get more noise in the process.
